A bus ride, round one

Jun 19, 2012 20:44

Well, I did it.  My daughter and I bought bus tickets and I got onto a city bus and tried to get to the neighboring city where her community college classes will be starting up soon.

On the good side - ( I rode a bus! )

bus, college, fears

Ewww, what a lousy way to start! Were you trying to make it easy for the next one to be an improvement? I do hope it is!

I know, right? Maybe my self-concept that I am inherently lousy at bus-riding isn't so far-fetched after all. :-P
I'll manage this thing yet...! ha!

I hate riding the bus, so I totally understand where you're coming from. But you did it! And some of the things you feared, ie getting on the wrong bus, being late, happened, so now you know what to expect. It will get easier the more you do it!

Thank heavens we were in a town I was mildly familiar with, I would have hated to have that happen someplace when traveling - and yes, the being late part seems to be something everyone is just kind of resigned to with busing - if anything, they seem to expect it...that wasn't too bad aside from the lingering irrational fear that whichever bus was just missed was the *last* one for that entire day and I just hadn't heard the hidden announcement somewhere that it was going to be ending early, heh. Oh brain, how do I live with you sometimes?

Didn't like the wrong bus thing but feel better knowing that if I pull the little rope thingy I am allowed to get off and it doesn't just keep going and going until it takes me to another state, lol...

Oh gosh, what an ordeal! I'm proud of you for starting the process, and hope it gets easier.

Thank you! I do too - now at least I know about the two bus lines who park by each other and have similar numbers on them, by golly they won't fake me out again...hee!

This reminds me of something a friend told me once. She had grown up in a family where every time they took a trip, they were always very stressed about getting to the airport early so they wouldn't miss the flight. So once, when she was traveling without them, she missed a flight. On purpose. She told me she just wanted to find out what would happen. And yes, it was a bit of a hassle, but it wasn't a catastrophe. And now she is no longer afraid of missing flights.

Your bus experience sounds the same -- a hassle, but something you survived and conquered. And now you never again have to fear missing the bus, or getting on the wrong bus, because you know you can deal with it. *hugs*
