[Well, hello there, Network-viewers. What's that you see on your screens? Why, it's Rosella's device switching on, offering a quick glimpse of her face as the video engages. Oddly enough, though, she seems to be looking past the video, rather than into it; her attention is more on the device itself than on the fact that ( Read more... )

[Cain, in a moment in which he isn't dancing, steps over to the sign--perhaps to admire it?]

That seems as though it'll serve as a good advertisement for this affair.

[Rosella, for her part, certainly looks satisfied with herself, and smiles at him as he approaches.]

I do hope so! And people do seem to be enjoying themselves, don't they?

They certainly seem to be, yes.

But I will say that we've not given a demonstration as yet. Or am I going to have to wait until the ball for a dance with you?

Oh, I suppose we'd best have at least one today. Otherwise, you might find yourself tempted to start cutting in on my demonstrations, too, along with all my dances at the ball.

Oh thank God somebody is holding lessons.

...if one is a really terrible dancer, you promise not to laugh?

primrosella February 10 2011, 02:02:54 UTC
Goodness, I'd never dream of doing such a thing! Why, the whole point of the lessons is to help people with it, and laughing at someone is certainly no way of helping that I've ever heard.

Oh. Okay. Okay, good.

...cuz I'm really, really terrible.

Well, then, that's all the more reason you ought to come and learn with us! Were you planning to go to the Valentine's Ball next week, may I ask?

What style of dancing?

[Idle curiosity is idle.]

Hello, Neil! It's just waltzing today, I'm afraid. I don't think there'll be any swing dancing about at Tamaki's ball next week.

The swing was fun, wasn't it? But you're right, not very formal.

Oh, it was lovely! But I imagine most of the dances at the ball will be waltzes, and it seems that most people aren't taught them anymore, in modern times! Which is really such a shame, and I'd hate for anyone to feel put off from having a good time because they didn't know how to dance.

[Possibly against her better judgment and without having the opportunity to let Rosella know ahead of time, Claire shows up at the warehouse in a creamy sweater, jeans, and a pair of heeled brown boots. She's not sure what one is supposed to wear to dance lessons - yoga pants, a tutu? - but in a rare moment of foresight at least decided that practicing in heels could only help things come Monday. That doesn't have her feeling any less awkward, slipping in behind a few people she doesn't recognize so she can blend in and watch others move through motions that look simple enough in theory.

Still, she's hoping she won't be picked next, unsure of the rotation and content with watching until she thinks she can at least get the steps straightened out in her head before applying them practically. Of course, those who typically try to look intensely occupied with their papers are always the ones that end up getting called on when the teacher is searching for volunteers.]

[Part of being the hostess of this event means keeping an eye on her guests as a whole, which means Claire doesn't escape Rosella's notice for long; still, she knows that look of hesitance all too well, and gives her new arrival a bit of space before heading over to greet her personally.

It's an unusual reversal of roles; normally, Claire always seems to be the one confident in her surroundings, understanding the nuances of a modern world that sometimes escape Rosella. But this world is one that Rosella knows, has known since she was a girl, and so it seems today it's her turn to be perfectly at ease in the setting, instead.

Perhaps it's vain and self-indulgent of her to be a bit jealously triumphant at that change of pace, but for one fleeting moment, she is. And it isn't until she's managed to set that feeling aside that she walks over to Claire, a friendly smile on her face and her hand raised in a slight wave.]

Hello, Claire! It's so nice to see you. Are you excited to dance?

[Claire has been to dances, enough of them to have firmly implanted in her mind a sense of how things are supposed to work. Unfortunately, none of the dances that she has been to in her life have ever been proper, have ever exactly been balls. Unfortunately, all of the dances that she has been to have involved chaperons telling students not to dance so close, not to dance like that, no bending over to the front, and definitely no touching your toes. The idea of having to learn steps when she's just swayed back and forth is a little imposing, even with a background in cheering and all the inherent steps and formations that come with it ( ... )

Oh, it's no trouble at all! Anyone's welcome to drop in whenever they please, it's a very casual sort of lesson today. [As her smile turns a bit warmer at the question.] And really, it's not so hard as you might think. It's much easier to follow than it is to lead, you know. You'll need one of the boys for that, of course, but I can show you the basics before you get started, if you'd like.

[Motioning for Claire to follow her, Rosella steps over to an emptier part of the room, a little off to the side where they won't be bothered by the bustle on the floor. Then, bobbing a bit to the beat of the music, she arranges her arms into position, as though paired with an invisible partner, to demonstrate for Claire.]

Your arm rests on top of your partner's, you see, and that's where the lead really comes from; with a good partner, you won't even have to think about where you're being led. It'll just come naturally from moving in opposition to his steps, see?

[ Forgive my tardiness, but here, have one Amory Felix garbed in a white dress shirt, and why yes, dark slack. On the day of the event, he will be dressed in something even spiffier.

(In fact, in the hayday of his youth, well, teenagehood, he was one of the few to enjoy dressing up on a regular basis. If your posse looks swank, it's only normal you adapt their stales. ]

Rosella?

[At the moment, Rosella is currently surveying the dance floor, watching a fledgling couple just beginning to get the hang of the steps and the beat; as a result, she doesn't hear Amory approach until he says her name, and then turns to look with a surprised--and pleased--smile.]

Amory! Oh, how nice to see you! And how are you today?

[ It would be a lie to say that Amory Felix is approaching this with pure intentions. The woman who taught him this dance had used it as a lure - to put it crassly - as a way to tempt him, and now there's an indelible connection.

There are more crass things to say. Something about how Amory is, at heart, a young man with normal impulses. Something about how he's been ruined as a true romantic by the woman who taught him. Something appealing Rosella story book ideal caught in flesh. A rare collectible; new, unique and impossible. He may hate fantasies, but Amory likes Rosella, likes her in two readings of the word, though the latter is only now, gradually, being realized.

Raised as a caustic gentleman, he approaches her with a hint of a smile. Or at least, you could infer a smile from his expression. ]

I'm late. [ A beat. ] You seem busy, but I'll have to steal you for a moment.

Oh, it's quite all right. It's a very informal event today, anyway.

[Though whether she means that in response to his tardiness or his apparent interruption, it's not entirely clear--or, perhaps, it's a bit of both. She is pleased to see him, and pleasantly surprised at how generally...well, friendly he's been lately. She may not know the precise cause of it (yet, at least), but whatever it is, she's thankful for it, and she's not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.]

I'm not so busy as you might think, really. Just watching to make sure everything goes as it ought--and everyone seems to be doing quite well at it today! I've had my toes stepped on a fair number of times, but it's nothing too awful, and only to be expected from teaching beginners.
