[And she definitely jumps about a mile at the unexpected noise.]

Who--?!

Your device, it's on.

What? [Scuffling. Then, after a minute, she manages to unearth it in the dark.] Oh, rats. How long has this been on? Drat it all.

...Edmund?

audio ][ well of course she's up at this hour so this works shiningdown September 18 2010, 06:25:33 UTC
I've heard that animals help with that.

The ticking, not bad dreams.

[At least she only jumps a little this time, and not a mile out of her bed.]

I do have a cat and a fish, but they're not much for company while I'm sleeping. Which is likely a good thing, since I'm sure I would've bumped Snowdrop right off the bed a minute ago, if she'd been up here with me.

I didn't mean to startle you.

[ pause ]

How is it now, though---the ticking?

It's all right. I didn't realize this had turned on, but I suppose there'll be no getting it off the Network now.

[An equal pause.]

The ticking? It's fine, why do you ask?

You know your device turned on the night, Rosella.

I rather found that out the hard way, yes. It gave me quite a fright.

misterblackbird September 18 2010, 16:33:39 UTC
And are you all right after that fright?

Really, I just feel a bit ridiculous, more than anything else. I'll have to be more careful where I put my device in the future, so there's no chance of knocking it off my table and having it switch on by accident again.

Didn't sleep so well last night, Rosella?

I'm afraid not, Penny. I just had a bit of a nightmare, though, that's all. It's nothing to worry about.

Then there won't be any worrying, I promise. Not unless it becomes an every night thing and you stop being able to sleep.

If the ticking ever really gets to you, you can always give me a call, okay? No matter what time it is or what's going on.

...I really didn't mean for all that to get out onto the Network, you know. It's only at night that it bothers me, and even then, only sometimes.
