I think the underlying question they were trying to get to is interesting, but you know what? They didn't get to it.

I hate those lets-tug-on-the-heartstrings-real-hard questions, anyway. I hate movies like that, too. Which is why I avoid stuff like Old Yeller and books like Tuesdays with Morrie. Oh, and Sophie's Choice, which really is in another category entirely, because it definitely isn't sentimental.
