So songdogmi gave the heads up that Rufus was on The Hour. This by me is a Good Thing, and tonight I actually had the time and attention span to actually go to the website and watch the interview. Which is what I did. Well, I went to the website, anyway. The reason why I still haven't managed to see the interview yet?

It's actually all my Platonic!Fake!Read more... )

*squee* Naomi King is a minister?! I DID NOT KNOW THAT! I could totally be Stephen King's daughter. *dances* (Wow, stop and consider the yin-yang of that: Dad illuminates the light side of human nature by mucking around in its dark side for a living, and daughter encounters the dark side of that nature because she mucks about on the light side for a living. That is cool.)

I didn't know she was a minister, either. :)

You know what the best part of this whole interview was? With all that he could have mentioned about his life, he announces very proudly that he's madly in love with his wife. IS HE NOT THE BEST EVER?

Oh, I KNOW. That's pretty much my favorite thing about him. I mean, please. You can count on one hand the number of American men who would (or could) make that claim and honestly and completely mean it. That alone merits a huge crush on Steve.

And the fact that it's completely obvious he means it is even better.

Hey, have I ever told you my actual six-degrees-of-separation from Stephen King? When I was 26, for about 8 months I dated a guy from Maine who, as a kid, had played Little League. One year, Matt was pitching for his team, and he accidentally clocked the batter with the baseball -- and the kid was Owen King. Matt said Owen's dad (who was there and came rushing over, since Owen was on the ground) was nice about it and not scary, and didn't in any way threaten his life because Matt had clobbered his son.

Why, yes, that was only tangentially related to anything.

*adds tangent to tangent*

Back when I waited tables for a living (what was I thinking? I have no coordination or organization and cannot read lists), I worked with a guy who went to school with Owen (he's the youngest son, right)? He said that the King house had no electricity (I don't know what it was fuelled by) except the study where dad did all his writing, because you kind of need a computer/word processor to work on). I don't know if this is still the case, or if he was being put on. :)

O_O. Freaky! I wonder if that's true? I believe SK said something in On Writing about making the transition to using a computer/word processor to write... in the early days he wrote his books in longhand on legal pads, with Berol Black Beauty pencils (cf. repeated references to these pencils in The Dark Half). Can you IMAGINE?! The man wrote The Stand IN LONGHAND. How is his hand not still in traction?

Add to that the fact that he's probably pretty close to legally blind (I think he has Macular Degeneration, which is progressive, IIRC). Geez, no wonder he did drugs.

songdogmi (not to be confused with songdog, who is also awesome) is a wealth of info. He lives in your neck of the woods, also (well, the same state, anyway).

The Hour is all kinds of wonderful. I &hearts my CBC addiction.
