When I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer I happened to live within a mile of the majority of what was to become my medical staff... I could literally walk to followup appointments. 20/20 hindsight says I had actually *had* ThyCa for a very long time (thankfully, it was(!) of the very slow-growing, easily treatable variety), but we didn't *discover* it until I was where I needed to be to get it taken care of.
I've long since quit worrying about why things turn out as they do, and tend towards celebrating when they turn out right...
