Title: Two Kingdoms
Author:
prettyorianna
Pairing: Akame.  Others to be added later.
Rating: NC-17.
Genre: AU for sure, past that... who knows?
Beta by: my cat Gemma.
Disclaimer: I don't own KAT-TUN, any of its members, any other JE people.  I write this for fun and for other fans of these fine folks.  But don't steal my plots, mmkay?  I put a great deal of time into them except for when I'm randomly spastically spitting words onto a page.  But I value those too...

Summary:  The world has split into the Light and the Dark and it has divided society.  Can two people change the world?  Can they even change each other?

Author's Note:  Okay, first of all, title subject to change.  Second of all, this is just a prologue and not even a long one at that.  I'm probably not writing this anytime soon.  It's just... I keep getting ideas and some of them hit really hard and demand my attention.  This is one of those.  To appease my muse Luna, I will post this now.  Then maybe she'll shut up and get back on task with TWCC.  Oh, and if yer curious, the narrator is Kame.  It doesn't say that and normally I'd make you wait till chapter one to find that out, but since chapter one is probably a long time away (TWCC is nowhere near done!) I think it would be best to just tell you.  Oh, and don't let the makeshift title fool you; this takes place now-ish and on Earth.... ish.  AU Earth, I guess.

Warning:  I haven't the foggiest.  Possibly character death, I suppose.  But really, I don't know.

Two Kingdoms ~Prologue~

Everyone claims that the difference between the Light and the Darkness is essentially the difference between good and evil.  Many of the world’s religions speak in those terms.  Even those who don’t care for religion often still see the difference in terms of morality, assigning all our positive actions and characteristics to the Light and every negative part of human existence to the Darkness.

As a race, we’ve grown up ignorant of so much.  We’re just now starting to see the world for what it is.  We’ve believed those things for so many generations and inherited views are some of the hardest to give up.

What we do finally know is that we are each of us born to either the Light or the Darkness.  It’s only within the last few centuries that we’ve been able to tell the difference, to see and understand the Mark which we all receive at conception.

The world has been split into two Kingdoms.

The debate of Light versus Dark, it’s not one of just morality or religion any longer.  Maybe it never was, but what’s passed can no longer be changed.  No, it has practical application even in this modern society.  Even now the old associations of good and evil cling to perceptions like some desperate parasite.  A handful of governments try to maintain a balance between the two Kingdoms, dividing the various positions more or less evenly, but they’re in the minority.  Most still rely on that notion that things of the Light are inherently good and things of Darkness inherently evil, choosing to ban the Kingdom of Darkness from political office entirely.

Even the average man on the street tends to think like that.  If you are born with the Mark of the Kingdom of Light, the opinion is that though you may make some mistakes in your life, you are born a basically good person.  The world opens its doors for you.

If you are born with the Mark of the Kingdom of Darkness, however, it’s assumed you’re devious and cruel and that you simply cannot be trusted.  When you make a mistake, there is no second chance for you… and that’s assuming you get a chance at all.

Lately there have even been reports of parents killing their own children just for being born of a different Kingdom.  Again, this sort of thing is expected from the Darkness but some of the reports…

I used to think the Darkness was evil, self-serving at the best of times and the stuff of nightmares at the worst.  That’s what pretty much everyone said, my parents included.

That’s what you believe too, isn’t it?  I know if you’re reading this, chances are pretty good you were born to the Light.  Kids from the Dark don’t get a free public education, at least not in this country.  Some private schools will accept them but private school is expensive and where would they get the money?  True, some of the Dark are born to parents of the Light - science still hasn’t discovered how the universe decides to split us though they’re working on it - but, well, would you waste that kind of money on a child you know has no hope of succeeding?

Maybe we just aren’t ready as a race for this knowledge.  It’s widely believed that we’ve always belonged to one kingdom or another, back as far as the very first humans.  It’s only in recent centuries the Mark appeared.  When we didn’t know, we couldn’t judge.  Now that we know, well… is this really an improvement?  We don’t judge by race or religion or gender or sexuality anymore but isn’t this just as bad?

I admit, I didn’t always see things that way.

Not till I met him.

A/N:  So... what do you think?  Should I figure out a place in the list of future writing for it or do you guys just not have any interest in this kind of story?

Oh, and I'm not going to bother posting to the communities since I know I won't be writing this for a while unless I get bored or something.  Seems kind of pointless.  But I'm not friend-locking it either.
