Title: The Things We Can't Control
Author:
prettyorianna
Pairing: Akame.  Others to be added later.
Rating: NC-17.
Genre: crime drama au
Beta by: my cat Gemma.  okay, seriously, nobody
Disclaimer: I don't own KAT-TUN, any of its members, any other JE people.  I write this for fun and for other fans of these fine folks.  But don't steal my
plots, mmkay?  I put a great deal of time into them except for when I'm randomly spastically spitting words onto a page.  But I value those too...

Summary:  Two criminals with vastly different styles meet by chance one day.  Can they work together or will they end up destroying each other?

Author's Note:  Back to the past.  Sorry this is insanely short.  I hope the next update will be longer.  The meds seem to be helping the foot so I don't have to spend so much time propping it up.

BANNER BY DESHISORABA!!

Warning:  This gets graphic often occasionally, containing at the very least foul language, character death, nefarious crimes, rape, etc etc.

Chapter 40 ~Real Hope~

Christmas came and went once more, bringing more chocolate with it.  Aoi took him to a specialty shop north of the river to have his Snoopy doll cleaned and mended, too.  It still looked pretty ragged but at least the ear wasn’t falling off anymore and the blood was gone.

Truthfully, he was a bit nervous, leaving it at the shop for a couple days but once he had it safely back, he got over it.  He kept it locked in his cabinet most of the time anyway.  That way he couldn’t lose it.  Akira teased him about his possessiveness but Kame could tell it was in jest so he just childishly stuck his tongue out any time it happened.

The Club had a huge New Year’s party.  Even the morning regulars showed up that night.  There was something almost magical in it.  The downstairs was packed, people who led many different lives outside of the club but came together for the same thing, accepting of each other like the rest of the world was not.

Mari had a game of cards going on and Kame joined in, even though he knew she cheated because she’d been the one to teach him how to cheat.  The game did get kind of ridiculous after a while, though, since apparently every other person playing also knew how to cheat.  It became a contest to see who could get away with the most outrageous plays.

It was probably good they weren’t playing for money.  Really, it was all in good fun.

Kame even relaxed enough to drink a bit, something he never thought he’d do after what happened with Daisuke.  But Yassan let him fix his own drink and he didn’t leave it unattended; besides, he had people there watching out for him and he trusted them.  He trusted the twins, and Yassan, and Subaru… hell, he even trusted the security guards.  All five of the guys from Arashi Security Consulting had turned up at the party, despite the fact that MatsuJun had been up and at work since two in the morning for his shift.

January wasn’t quite as fun.  Kame missed an entire week of work due to the flu which he promptly gave to both Akira and Aoi, causing him to miss even more work because he couldn’t drive himself and the club was too far to walk.  But they got through it fine, which Kame was grateful for because he didn’t trust his father to not somehow track him down if he showed up at the hospital.

Sometimes Kame wondered if his fear of his father was overblown.  Was he attributing powers beyond Papa K’s abilities just because his father’s influence spread past their house?  Could any man really be and do all the things Kame feared him for?

It’s not like Papa K caused Daisuke to find him; that had, despite the danger, not been his father’s doing.  It was more bad luck that Daisuke recognized him.  Mostly likely the rest of it would have happened anyway even without the reward his father offered.

He wanted to ask the twins about it, but he really didn’t want them knowing who his father was.  Just in case.

Oh, he trusted them.  As much as he could trust anyone, he trusted them.  But…

Well, this was different.

Or was it not?

Better to err on the side of caution, he supposed.

February was an improvement from January.  As his seventeenth birthday drew closer and he thought back about how his year had been, he had to admit it was perhaps his happiest time.  He let himself appreciate that fact and let himself hope that the bad times on the streets were gone permanently.

Yes, real hope.  Not that desperate feeling that things HAD to get better just because they couldn’t get worse.

He could get used to that.  He really could.

Though life had gone on like usual for Komatsu, he was still bitter about being kicked out of The Club.  That little slut had spent months working him up and then pretty much attacked him when he called him on it.  There wasn’t another club like that to join in the whole city so being ostracized from The Club was actually a big deal to him.

But the parting ass-kicking the security guard gave him was enough of a warning.  He wouldn’t try going back.

Still, he was just… bitter.

One night, late in January, a man approached him at the bar he started frequenting after being kicked out of the club.  “Are you Komatsu Nobuo?”

“Un,” he grunted, not really looking up from his drink.

“You are the man who was treated so unfairly at The Club on Lexus Avenue?”

That got Komatsu’s full attention.  Looking up at the man, at first all he noticed was the scarred over eye socket but once he got past that, he took in how very tidy the stranger was and tiny things here and there that spoke of wealth.  “Yes.  Who are you?” he asked, trying not to stare at the missing eye.

“People call me Papa K.”  The man sat down on the bar stool next to him.  “We should talk.”

Chapter 41 ~A New Headache~

A/N:  Sorry it's so short.  It's partially because of my foot but also because I need to end it where I did and there's only so much stuff I could put in the middle.  It's kind of filler, just to get you to the point at the end.  But it's necessary filler, right?  LOL
