It may have been cool once, but these days Burning Man is by turns boring and physically uncomfortable. I guess if nudity (of ugly men) or overfigured large installation art impresses you, you might like it

At Burning Man you've always had to pack out all your own trash and compost, except for toilet paper in the porta potty (and tampons etc. can't go there). So this is nothing new, but it's still messy.
The grey water management is new since the years I went (1995 through 2001), although with 47,000 people instead of 5,000 or even 25,000 I can see why it might be an issue. Still, I'm very glad I never had to do that.
Harassment, or sexualization of all contact in a festival environment... both decrease as you get older. I wasn't thinking about that until AK's post added to another post from a friend of mine biking around in Berkeley. Both incidents occurred within the last week. I'm hypothesizing that I'm in that charmed time between unwanted attention and invisibility.
Sometime way back when, maybe 1999 or 2000, a friend almost convinced me to go to Burning Man.
Even if it was cool and not boring back then, I'm glad I didn't go! The friend didn't really explain it well, and I would have been very very unhappy in those conditions. Very. Unhappy.
I've never been to burning man, but it has always sounded incredibly unpleasant. I can understand wanting to camp in the desert, but I would never want to camp out in a crowded desert. Please complain more about burning man.
Yes! Having been twice and planning to go next year, I can say that it categorically sucks and everyone should stay home. I don't recommend that anyone go! Frankly, there were too many people last year anyway, and I didn't like half of them. I probably won't like you either, so stay home!
