It's so interesting, how everyone seems to have an entirely different story-forming and writing process! I know people who write scenes out of order, which is totally mind-bending for me!
I love that you keep all your notes :D
For shorter fics I usually start off with a general idea where I want the fic to go and give the characters a few boundaries along which they can move and have a couple of scenes pre-formed in my head that I'd like to happen; I usually write to music to keep the pace, flow and mood steady (which I've heard is REALLY WEIRD). For longer fics I keep a notebook in which I do scene-by-scene outlines and plot outlines. It usually heavily depends on how plot-intensive the piece is (going to be).
Usually the final version of my fic is not all that different form the first draft, because I keep going back while writing and re-reading everything, editing as I write it.
Oh man, it's almost impossible for me to write scenes out of order. The only time that really happens is if during my scene flesh-out, the writing of it is like pulling teeth, I might go to the next one. That rarely happens though.
Notebooks! Up until this last year or so, I would always go and buy the same style notebooks for writing, ideas, outlines, etc. I have half a dozen in different colors around here. It's hella fun to find one and read what I was writing a few years ago, lol.
Er, my entire process is having a vague idea what the last scene will be. Like, I knew with the hs fic that at some point Liam was going to think Louis had finally asked him out but then he hadn't. And... everything else was just how to get there. With what I'm writing now I literally just was like, "Oh man, it would be so cute if they met while they were drunk as shit." I have no idea how it became a fic about Harry Styles's Feelings.
Okay, fine, I generally write out a list of scenes. Like the fic I'm writing right now, I have a note that says:
Harry POV Drunk Louis Chat with drunk Liam Liam's in a cab Calling Niall "Your liam hooked up with my lous" Awkward brunch ????
So you can see how those ended up being a fic.
Right now my note says:
Sometimes I think all you really want is someone who won't give you everything you want.
Er, my entire process is having a vague idea what the last scene will be.
Mine is almost always the first line of the fic, lol. A line will pop into my head and then the story. If I'm lucky, the scene descriptions will flow pretty quickly and then writing and re-writing (and re-writing again). ugh.
You actually have a process, which must be nice. I wouldn't know. I get a line of dialog or a particular scene in my head and I build around that until I'm done. I usually write an entire fic in one sitting and then go back and tweak it. But, I also only ever write a couple thousand words. So.
I generally start that same way. I'll get the first sentence or the last one, and then it steamrolls from there.
The only reason this particular process evolved was probably out of necessity. Once I started writing longer things, I couldn't go further until the general layout was done. Like I said, though, the sheer amount of re-writing I do is ridiculous, I think.
Speaking of writing, I know you've been working on some things and I wanted to remind you that I'm here to throw stuff against! :)
The Zayn/Liam has been revised and sent off to second beta, but she hasn't gotten it back to me yet. So, it's basically done and not much has changed since you read it aside from the fact that now there are more Liam feelings than there already were.
I'd love for you to read what I have of the Zayn/Niall, though.
