FAQ: Member Points.

Mar 01, 2008 12:44

pretty_stickers is hoping to start a Member Point System very shortly. Beneath the cut is the proposal of how it will work. Please let me know whether you’d like this to be added to pretty_stickers way of “life”, and if you have any improvements you’d like to add, please state it below.

what are member points?
As stated in the userinfo, member points is our way of rewarding those members who participate in rounds, take part in the drabbles, vote and leave feedback at the original place where a fic is linked. It’s our way of noticing the member’s who do what is expected at pretty_stickers and much more, including making it a very active place that’s friendly.

how can i get member points?
You can get them in many ways, even those that aren’t listed here. We encourage that every member leaves feedback at the hosted site where the fic is linked, and that every member who participates in a round (and who doesn’t) votes.

In a simplified way, here’s some ways you can win yourself a couple of points:

• leaving feedback at the host where the fic can be originally found.
• participating in rounds and drabbles.
• advertising the community.
• replying to mod posts with something that you’d like to see featured in the community.
• suggestions.
• winning an award.

okay, so, how many points can i get for doing so-and-so?
Below are the points you can win yourself with the most obvious things you can do at, for and with pretty_stickers.

• leaving feedback.
This ranges from 1-5, as it depends on what kind of feedback you’ve left. We don’t like rating the comments you leave, but some feedback is, honestly, way more helpful and better than some.

(Below are just examples, but hopefully you understand what we’re getting at.)

- “That was awesome!” - 1 point.
- “I really liked this … and this … Well done!” - 2-3 points.
- “Wow, what a fantastic piece! I really liked this line … and I really like how you portrayed John Doe getting eaten by a dinosaur.” - 4-5 points.

Basically, the points depend on how much depth you leave in your comment. Remember, the point to pretty_stickers is to leave feedback that can help the writer grow and know what people like and what they don’t.

Also, if you leave feedback to a fic that’s based on a fandom you do not know - and you state this in the feedback - you’ll get yourself some extra points, too. But do not do that to get some points!

• participating in rounds and drabbles.
Obviously, you can score yourself some points by participating in either challenge pretty_stickers has to offer.

[1] With rounds, you do not get any points for signing up. However, you will get yourself 1 point for having read everything in the post and making sure it’s known to the moderator.

[3] Once you’ve submitted a fic, you automatically get yourself 3 points. We know it’s hard to get an entry in by the deadline, and that sometimes muses don’t work rather well with the challenge.

[1] If your entry submission is correctly labeled, you’ll win yourself another point.

[2] Drabbles aren’t that different; if you submit a drabble, you get yourself 2 points.

[1] If your submission is correctly labeled, you win yourself another point.

[1] If you tag each entry correctly, here’s another point for you!

[x] Most rounds will have a feature called bonuses. Each bonus holds a different about of points for each round. During the round it will not be specified how much each bonus is worth (therefore, you will not be able to know how much b is worth compared to c). At the end, though, hopefully it will be announced how much each bonus was worth and who won the points. (This will be recorded in the winner's post; let's just hope the mod remembers.)

• suggesting challenges.
[1] If you suggest a challenge for a round or drabble, you win yourself 1 point.

[2] However, if you supply a picture, you get yourself 2. We like suggestions and we hope that winning points doesn’t quite effect whether people suggest some ideas or not.

[1] Also, if you suggest a challenge and go into depth as to how it could possibly work - and this kind of counts for the rather broad ideas or ideas that are kind of hard to expand if you didn’t think of it yourself - you get yourself 1 point. (You can get 2 if it’s a rather difficult idea explained rather well.)

• winning an award.
[4] Winning an award for your piece gives you 4 points.

• voting.
[3] If you vote by following the instructions and using the text boxes in the appropriate manner, you’ll get yourself 3 points. This greatly helps the moderator and puts her in a rather happy and generous mood.

• replying to mod posts.
[2] It’s rather annoying when there needs to be several posts made about the same thing because members aren’t replying. If you reply to one of these posts with something that’ll actually help, you score yourself 2 points.

[1] Also, if you stroke the mod’s ego, you get yourself 1 point. Possibly more; it depends on how much you stroke the ego. :p

• advertising the community.
[1] By advertising the community, you score yourself 1 point.

[1] If it’s obvious as to who you ‘recruited’, if that member is active you score yourself another point. We like enthusiastic members who don’t play dead!

Remember, there are many other ways that you can score yourself some member points! We don’t like to list everything; you’ve got to think for yourself, sometimes!

how do i know how many points i have?
If you view this post, you will see that there is a tally “sheet” and you will see how many points you have, when you got them, and why. Please do not comment to that post.

will you notify me if i win any points?
Possibly not; it really depends on whether people will want to do this or not, and if so, there will be a mod post up every week or so indicating any new points added to the list. But, no, the mod will not comment to your feedback saying you’ve one a point, nor your entry submissions, either. Be independent and, if that post in regards to the tallying of points is up, check it. The moderator gets rather aggravated when she has to hold everyone’s hand to cross the deserted road.

when do i get my prize?
When the fifth rounds come by; every multiple of five is when the slates will be wiped clean, the winner announced, and everything will start fresh. So, the tenth round, fifteenth round, etc.

what is the prize?
We can’t promise any icons, as that is not the theme to the community, but we can promise that you’ll have a large say in the round challenge. If you have a fic that you can’t quite finish, you can select a challenge for the round and finish off your fic. Use this privilege to your advantage; if you’ve written a fic about flowers, and you win this member award system, you can say that the challenge is about flowers and you’ll have a head start.

You’ll be placed on the Member Hall of Fame as well, which will be coming by shortly. Also, the moderator will love you for a while and possibly not get all “roar!” on you if things start to get a little frustrating for her short-temper.

If you’d like, an award will be made for you - and, if anyone is up for it, you can ask your favourite writer in the community to write you something.

We’re always welcome to suggestions on prizes!

lastly, how can i start this?
Reply below with your thoughts, and hope that every other member will want to do this! If majority wins, or the comments die down, and the most people have said is yes, this will start immediately.

I hope this all makes sense. If it doesn’t, let me know and I’d like to clarify any “what the hell are you smoking!?” bits.

Thank you! :D

edit. Please direct any point nominating here.
