Dean had spotted the dog chained up by the back steps and had dashed off to pet the nice big rottweiler with the big spiky collar and the missing eye.

I love that sentence. :)

I love this chapter. I really enjoy this "first meeting" for John and Bobby, and the whole conversation, and the paranoia, and all of it.

Thank you! I wanted to put a different spin on the whole 'first meeting' thing and also play up some of the sheer hell John must have gone through as the single parent of two boys, one of whom is Dean Winchester.

BOBBY ♥

This is one place you don't want to start fucking with causality. You do that, and an effect might bite you in the ass a hundred years ago.

This is just really cool. I love timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly stuff, so I'm really glad you're elaborating on the few details the show dropped.

In so many ways, the good dreams were worse than the nightmares.

Fucking amen.

I would have to think that one reason John was so driven is that if he slowed down long enough to really think about everything he lost, he'd break completely.

When I saw you mention timey-wimey in your comment, I cracked up, for reasons that I think are clear to you now.

I like how you put the day to day stuff in here, dirty diapers and one-eyed rotties. I also love your first impressions of Jim and Bobby. Bobby's place seems like home to both the boys and maybe even John - a little bit.

Thank you! And yes, the boys felt at home there instantly. John did as well, but I see him as being too wounded/damaged to pick up on that (even with the big honking clues his subconscious gave him in that dream).

I do figure that some of John's drill-sergeant behavior with the boys wasn't just to keep them safe, but to preserve his own sanity while traveling with two young children.

Having had three children - two - two years apart. I can relate to John! I sometimes think it was a miracle that my youngest two made it to adulthood.

Death by Momma is not a very nice thing!
