Though it hasn't been the case lately...Remember, being intelligent has, for the last 5 - 8 years, been a bad thing in the US. Intellectuals aren't trustworthy. But redneck idgits with rich daddies are good at running the most powerful nation in the world.

There were several points where the pro-same-sex-marriage Senator would say something to the effect of, "Well, sir - if you say that children grow up best inside the confines of marriage, why would you want to deny marriage to parents of the Xmillion children in this country raising their kids but who are denied that right?" to which the reply was something to the effect of, "Well, I don't care who people want to have sex with, but opening the door to same-sex marriage opens the door to polygamy and animal marriages also." Response: "Not if we word the bill to extend marriage to any two consenting adults and limit it at two." Which is what his bill DOES.

fucktards.
Sasha sent me an article about how we have knee jerk reactions to things we personally find "gross" and that Conservatives find more things "gross" than liberals (i.e. liberals are more tolerant - go figure). While I think there's truth in that, I also have to wonder when the loudest of the conservatives on some issues end up being closet versions of those issues. Closet gay, closet adulterer, etc.
You know, this really boils down to one thing in a legal sense, and judges are starting to get it. A civil union is about the state. The church and religious beliefs aren't welcome in the discussion. I think we should abolish the word "marriage" from all legal reference, myself.
