Tutorial #7 - Peter Petrelli Header

Aug 05, 2007 13:40

I have a tutorial for you! This time it's not an icon tutorial but a tutorial for the header I am currently using.

+Made for PS7.0
+Non-translatable
+Uses Selective Colouring

How to make this header:

Step 1. Open a new document. For headers I use 530x200.

Step 2. Flood fill with a bright colour. I used #F7941D.

Step 3. Use this texture (from distractiions). Rotate and resize it until it fits your canvas. Set it to Soft Light.

Step 4. Use this texture, also from distractiions. Again rotate and resize to fit then set to Screen. Merge layers. Now we have our base!

Step 5. Find your image and cut it out. I used this picture which I cut out with the Pen Tool.

Step 6. Copy the image into the header document and position/resize to your pleasing. Depending on how much you resize your image you may also need to Sharpen it.

Keep the original document with the cut out image to the side for later.

*Steps 7-11 come from someone else’s tutorial. If anyone knows who’s tutorial it is please tell me so I can credit! Thanks!*

Step 7. Duplicate the image and set it to Screen.

Step 8. Create a Curves adjustment layer with these settings:
RGB:
Point 1- Input: 43 Output: 38

Point 2- Input: 129 Output: 131

Red:

Point 1- Input: 61 Output: 58

Point 2- Input: 208 Output: 209

Green:

Point 1- Input: 62 Output: 64

Blue:

Point 1- Input: 67 Output: 59

Point 2- Input: 209 Output: 212

Ctrl+Click on your image layer to select it then Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. In the Curves Mask fill the selection black.

Step 9. Create a Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:

R: -22, 0, +12, 0

Y: -20, 0, +24, 0

N: +7, 0, -6, 0

Ctrl+Click on your image layer to select it then Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. In the Selective Color Mask fill the selection black.

Step 10. Make another Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:

R: -37, 0, +45, 0

Y: -10, 0, +43, 0

C: +72, 0, -88, 0

B: +85, 0, -96, 0

N: +10, 0, -7, 0

Ctrl+Click on your image layer to select it then Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. In the Selective Color Mask fill the selection black.

Step 11. Create a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer with +6B/+11C.

Ctrl+Click on your image layer to select it then Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. In the Brightness/Contrast Mask fill the selection black.

Step 12. Create one last Selective Color adjustment layer like this:

R: -100, +100, +100, +100

Y: -100, -2, +64, 0

N: +64, -6, +2, 0

Ctrl+Click on your image layer to select it then Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. In the Selective Color Mask fill the selection black.

Step 13. Duplicate you image and drag it to the top. Desaturate it and set it on Soft Light. Move over to the side like this.

Step 14. Go back to the document with the original cut out image. Using the rectangular marquee tool select a rectangle of their face. Copy this selection into a new document.

Step 15. Repeat steps 7-12 on the new document. Flatten the Image then copy and paste it into your header document. Now you have a sort of close-up of your subjects face.

Step 16. Duplicate your close-up and set it to Color Burn 50%

Step 17. Create a new layer between the black and white image and the close-up and, using the rectangle tool draw a rectangle slightly bigger than the close-up. This is your border.

Step 18. Add this texture on top, set it to Darken 50%.

Then add brushes, text, whatever you want and your done!
