I loved the ways Garak coped with his incarceration, and his reactions to some of the human classics were spot on.

Thanks for the comments! A sequel?? Hmm. I hadn't thought about it. Maybe "Marked" is the sequel. Where Garak had decided not to risk getting involved with Julian, and then the worst-case scenario happened anyway...

I happened to read this just after reading Marked, and I saw this as a prequel to Marked. Neat!

Thanks! I had been wavering on how long and how detailed to make the fantasy scenario, where Garak imagines what would/could happen. I thought of making it longer and very specific -- get all those steamy details in -- that maybe that would make it more of a shock when it turns out that it's all in Garak's head. Then I decided to go for simplicity, and do only the minimal amount needed. Also, too long between set-up and pay-off might be confusing, I thought. Glad to see it worked as written.
