GD

If you had GD and have already given birth, can I hear how it went, either in a comment or a birth story link? I'm specificially looking for, did they do a late term ultrasound to guesstamate baby's weight? Were you induced or did you go into labor on your own? At what gestation? Did you have a c-section? Was it scheduled?

Thank you!

Yes, I had an ultrasound at about 35 weeks and baby was measuring about 6lbs then, I had an induction scheduled but went into labor spontaneously about 20 hours before the scheduled time, at 41 1/2w, and had an emergency c-section because my doctor was a moron (bad positioning of baby and he swelled my cervix trying to flip her at 3cm). She did have some blood sugar issues (low sugar) after she was born and it took almost a week to straighten out because no one would explain a damn thing to me and instead of getting me a lactation consultant they thought yelling at me was more effective. :P She was 8lbs 6oz when she was born. My GD was controlled through diet, I never needed insulin.

I have had 2 pregnancies with GD, controlled by diet. Both were planned homebirths. One born a couple of days before the due date (8lb, 6oz) and the other was born 1 day short of 41 weeks (almost 7lb 9oz). I went into labour naturally for the first one, but for the second one, because the baby was as low as could go and in perfect position and because the baby was overdue and the hospital would start pushing an induction we decided to break my waters. Labour was only 20 minutes for that one.

Oh, and I declined the late ultrasound which they had no problem with thankfully.

I didn't have any special monitoring but I went into labor at 38w5d naturally.

I ended up with a c-section but that had nothing to do with the GD.

I have mixed feelings about all of that. I was very resistant to the idea that my GD should affect the birth, but there was early calcification of the placenta (found after the c-section) so I don't think I'd go past 40 or 41 weeks with a future pregnancy if I have GD with the next one.

Baby was perfectly healthy and fine.

I had GD with my third baby which was this last baby. I had ultrasounds every 4 weeks and then they went to every 2 weeks....Also I had bio physical u/s(to check fluids) and NST every week in the later of my pregnancy to see how the baby's heartbeat and rate and to check for contractions. I was told by my doctor that I was def NOT going to go to 39 weeks. I was induced at 38w2d. I had a fairly easy labor and she was born in 4 hours and 45 mins. She did have to go to the NICU afterwards for 4 hours but that is standard as there blood sugar need to be tested at 1,2 and 4 hours after birth.
