Birthing Clothes

Sep 28, 2011 02:18

I've been to several "Preparing for Childbirth" classes now and for some reason in all the videos I get entirely hung up on one question: what is the best thing to wear when you are in labor? I'm pretty modest, but I definitely want to breastfeed after delivery. I don't intend to get an epidural and I do intend to be moving about a lot. I do want ( Read more... )

What about a sports or nursing bra and birthing skirt? With maybe a thin bathrobe you could wear over for when you're not in the tub?

Here's a link to the birthing skirt thing I was referencing: http://www.birthinbinsi.com/index.htm I didn't use that (I'm a hospital gown girl... but my hospital gowns were actually comfy and didn't let anything hang out) but a friend of mine did and absolutely loved it.

I can understand why such a skirt would be useful, but from my budget-conscience mindset, I couldn't justify spending $50-60 on something I would probably only wear once.

I'm birthing in a birthing center and will be getting in and out if a birthing pool too. I've decided on a sports bra and skirt I'm probably going to get off a clearance rack somewhere.

I thought I would be really modest, but once I was in labor, I just didn't care. I got in and out of the tub completely naked because it was most comfortable for me.

Prior to that, I wore a nursing bra and wrap skirt. But I got really hot and took them off.

This! I spent so much time thinking about what I would wear in labor, whether I should wear a bikini top, or sports bra, or whatever, and as soon as that tub was ready I stripped everything off and got in!

I did put on hubby's XL tee shirt when I got back out to labor for awhile.

Same here! I started out covering my breasts with a towel while I was in the hospital tub and slowly became less and less modest till I ended up on all fours, buck nekked and howling like a banshee. =P Also, clothing, anything really, touching my skin felt irritating while I was in labor.

i'm giving birth at a birthing center where i can wear whatever i want and there's a tub there. i plan on wearing a black skirt, black swimsuit top and a tank top/shirt over that. i plan to start labor with the tank top on, take it off for the tub and then when the baby is born, unhook the top of the suit and breastfeed. it's the only thing i could think of that 1) wouldn't stain 2) was comfy but practical 3) looked good for pre-birth photos 4) was easy access for cervix checks but also modest.

if you look on amazon you can find labor dresses that some women really like.

I had one of these: http://prettypushers.com/ and loved it. I wore a nursing bra underneath and was good to go.

Cool site. I wish they had more than one plus size option though.

I had one of those but my water broke while I was in it so I wasn't wearing it for long and was naked after that :p

I don't think they really gave me an option for clothing when I was delivering.
I was like, "oh I brought a night gown."
And they were like "haha no, put on this paper dress."
I was really dazed to be there at all so I put on the paper dress.
