What is the weirdest baby shower gift you've received?

At my work shower somebody gave me a bag of various baby things, and included an underwater camera. ??? The only thing I can think of is that she probably knows we want a water birth, but ew! Does she think we should take underwater shots of the baby as she's coming out? Maybe it's because she's a nurse and they're fascinated by all sorts of ( Read more... )

2 boxes of samples of laundry soap.

One of the pediatric anesthesiologists I work with gets all kinds of things sent to him because companies assume he has a pediatricians office due to him having his own company. So he got sent boxes of All free and clear laundry soap trials. He had no use for them, his kids are adults. So he thought I could get some use out of them.

Came in handy! Whenever we traveled we'd pack some of the sample packets because guaranteed none of our parents or friends we were visiting were going to have laundry soap suitable for an infant and babies come with an increased need to do laundry. Weird yes. But very practical.

This is unrelated to babyshowers, but we were given a pair of salad hands at our wedding. They were cheap plastic and shaped like actual hands. The only thing I could think of is it is something she ordered from publishers clearing house and needed to get rid of it.
I was also given a mouse pad from an ex boyfriend, while we were still dating. Mouse pads are great, but I had no computer at the time.

Ya, we ended up giving it to a friend, our apartment is too small for things we don't use/need. Hopefully she can get use out of it.

A gross pair of maternity panties that HAD to have been purchased when the giver of this gift was pregnant... in the 80's. The packaging was sticky and looked/smelled like it had been in her basement for decades. Oh, in-laws.

My MIL got me a holiday shirt that said "'Tis the Season to be Pregnant" which, while tacky, was kinda cute. Until I tried it on and realized it was totally see-through! I told her it was, but she was still mad I didn't wear it for the Christmas Eve get-together.

LOL - I rocked the hell out of that shirt last Christmas.

With a white cami underneath.

My mom is coming up in a few weeks and she'd given me a bunch of totally see through maternity shirts.
Oh man am I gonna be in trouble when she finds out I don't have most of them anymore... (I kept one for underneath a dress she gave me...)

(I hear where you're coming from)

For my shower my mother stuffed a footie PJ thing with a bunch of different cloth items as a game, for people to guess how many things were stuffed in. It had this cloth toy octopus sticking out for the head, so it was this huge 6 month sleeper with this itty bitty orange head sticking out of it. I should have taken a picture - it looked like it was from Beetlejuice and the head-shrinking shaman guy had gotten to it. Pretty funny! But luckily my mother actually bought stuff off the registry to fill it with so it wasn't a bunch of junk ( ... )
