Nusing without nursing clothes...

I know this is a likely "no", but is it possible to nurse without buying all of the expensive nursing tops and bras?? I'm a big girl, and my bra size is 46DD normally, which will get bigger when my milk comes in and its TERRIBLY hard to find nursing bras in my size. I've had to resort to buying the expensive ones online, which my MIL has been nice ( Read more... )

How many nursing bras do you have?

I'd say 3 nursing bras and you're fine. I think I had more than that but there were only 2 that I wore all the time. I have 2 nursing tanks and never wore them. I don't own a nursing shirt or jammies. So IME, it's completely possible to BF successfully without lots of "nursing" clothes. FWIW, my DD BF for 18 months.

Oh, and of the 3 nursing bras that I wore and liked the most, I think one came from Target and the other from Wal-Mart.

I never bought a single nursing clothing item besides bras. (BTW this is my favorite nursing bra.)

I always pulled my top up, or down as needed to nurse.

Me too, I just use shirts that have a neck I can pull down easily.

Do you really NEED all those special tops? I didn't use them, but I only got as big as a 36D, but that's twice my normal cup size.. I mean, is it a necessary thing? LIke, if you don't use nursing bras/tops suddenly you can't nurse? Somehow I don't think that's true. They just make it more convenient.

It might be a little different since my chest is smaller, but I bought a few nursing bras and tanks with my first and hardly every used them. I wear one nursing tank now, on occasion, with my second. So yes, it's absolutely possible to nurse without buying all of the special nursing clothing. :) I wear my usual bras with a regular tank top over it under my regular shirt. Bra and tank come down, shirt goes up. And tada, boob for baby.

Can you invest in a bunch of button-down shirts? Maybe from the men's section- they'll be cheaper.
