Another birth story!

Feb 03, 2011 10:12

I haven't posted much, but I thought I'd share my birth story!  Warning:  in the end, a lot of things happened that I swore up and down would not happen:  A c-section, early pitocin/epidural, formula, etc.  I have a healthy boy, however, and I've come to terms with everything.  I still consider my birth experience a positive one!

Original due date: ( Read more... )

posterior presentation, birth stories- surgical, pitocin, spontaneous rupture of membranes, epidural anesthesia, formula, nesting, back labor, bloody show, complications - interventions, prodromal labor, cascade of intervention, breastfeeding problems

Yeah, a lot of LJers act like a c-section is horrible pain and a long recovery and include a side of second-rate maternal bond, but mine wasn't too bad. I was upset about it emotionally (I think mostly because I listened to too many people on the internet saying that c-sections < vaginal birth like it's a contest), but physically, it was an incredibly easy recovery for me.

I may choose a c-section again, too, if only because I felt so out of control last time, and I'd like to be in control next time.

Anyway, congrats on your boy! Baby boys are awesome. :)

The day after my c-section, the doctor came to check me, and I was sitting up in bed talking and laughing. He looked at me and my giant baby and said "I'll never talk you into a VBAC, will I?" I told him no. :-)

My take on c-sections and all that? As long as I get a healthy baby at the end, I don't care how the kid gets out.

My story was similar to your delivery except I was induced due to pre-e at 39 weeks. And my bp was dangerously high when I was fully dilated. My baby too didn't move down and got stuck (perfect cone head with indentions on each side of her head where she got stuck in in my pelvis). In the end I had a c-section due to fetal heart rate decels. Honestly, I'd do another c-section too to avoid the torture. My recovery wasn't too bad. Stayed sore for a while, but I was taking short walks around my neighborhood 5 days after delivery. And I know the feeling of being a human pacifier. My daughter was a cluster feeder who wanted to nurse from 6pm to 11pm-3am. I had to give formula to regain sanity. Not EBFing is not the end of the world. Some can some can't. I had to give up due to work at 5 months. Not ideal, but hey, I still have a healthy kid.

Congrats on your new baby!! Enjoy him!!

Congrats- I didn't have to have a c-section, but I swore I wanted med-free, etc. When I got there and they offered the epidural, I decided hell why not. In the end I'm glad I did because baby came face first (apparently he started face up and tilted his head backwards to "spot" his exit!) and I had to get cut and stretched very quickly to get him out, so I would have been in agony w/o the meds. He was almost an emergency c-section and I realized in that moment that I really didn't care- as long as baby was happy & healthy. Same sort of thing with EBF- I dried up when I went back to work and nothing helped. When I finally switched my thinking and gave him the formula, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I think we've just got to make the best choices for us. I'm glad your little one is happy & healthy!
