Stomach Flu?

Dec 16, 2010 12:26

Last night after dinner at Ruby Tuesday's (first mistake), my stomach started to feel pretty wonk.  I threw up thinking something just didn't sit well but I kept feeling worse and worse and by evening I was pretty sure I had the stomach flu.  My poor husband had to clean puke up from our WHITE carpet and I spent the night in and out of the bathroom ( Read more... )

Unless you spike a high fever or something, there should be no risk to the baby. Just make sure you keep yourself as hydrated as possible. I had the stomach virus a couple weeks ago (started Thanksgiving night...it was horrible!) and the only thing I could keep down was ice chips. After the worst of it was over I could hold down very small sips of sprite, but not straight water until I was feeling mostly over it.

The only time in my life I've ever had food poisoning 1) sounded just like this and 2) was from Ruby Tuesday.

That being said, keep an eye on your body. If you keep throwing up everything, even water, you can get quickly dehydrated. Watch your pee (if you can go -if you aren't peeing, that's a HUGE dehydration warning). If it's clear to light, you're still doing okay. If it's dark to "iced tea" - dehydration.

My midwife suggests keeping Recharge around. It's kind of like Gatroade, but it's made from fruit juice (Knudsen's brand, I believe). I drank a lot of that first trimester with morning sickness, and it really does help a lot. Try that if you can - even if you make 1/2-1/3 full ice cubes of the stuff and suck on it a little bit at a time.

Since you're so close to due date, this could actually bring on labor, too. If your midwife doesn't call back soon, try calling again.

I have been experience some rather uncomfortable BH as a result, but I think its just from slight dehydration. Hopefully I can keep something down soon that will keep this kid from coming out right now.

This sounds exactly like what I had last week (at 38 wks). I only managed to get down about half a glass of water and a bite or two of apple sauce in 24 hours. My midwife was concerned, and came over to see if I needed IV fluids. But after examining me she decided I would be fine. It was a 24-48 hr bug and I recovered fully by a day or two after.

Watered down apple juice is good, or Sprite or ginger ale. So is plain oatmeal. And I sucked on ice cubes to get some fluids down too. If you have a decongestant (e.g. Benadryl) you can also safely take that to try and get some rest.

It's miserable while you've got it, believe me I know!

I was told with my first if I couldn't keep water down I needed to go in. If you can't eve keep sips f water down you probably are or well on your way to dehydration. Take a sip. If you keep it down try another sip in 5 minutes. If you are just puking it up call L&D since you can't get a hold of your midwife.

Everyone in our house had this two weeks ago. It shouldn't be a problem as long as you stay hydrated. If you don't start feeling better fairly soon, I'd see someone and make sure it isn't food poisoning that requires medication (I had E.Coli during my last pregnancy that required antibiotics after 4-5 straight days, but it was just me suffering, baby was fine). Chances are it's a stomach bug and you'll feel better soon and baby will be fine.
