I heard you're not supposed to use hair dye in the first trimester, but what about the third?

At my 9-week visit, my OB told me that if I usually dye my hair to "put it off a few more weeks," so I assume it's safe after that. (I don't even dye my hair, she was just rattling off a list of standard safety stuff.)

Posts like this are exactly why I have a love/hate relationship with this community.

It's safe pretty much no matter what. Just don't put it in a gas mask and huff it until you pass out. Every day. For a month.

I've heard it's safe, so go for it if you want to. I want to go back to cherry red, but since I'm almost there, I'm not positive about bleach and there's nothing more boring than having your hair dyed anyway (it took me 7 hours just to get fuchsia streaks last time, I have natural black hair), I figured that waiting's not going to kill me.

The only reason you're "not supposed" to dye (or perm, or even cut!) your hair while pregnant is the same reason why it's not recommended to do it while you have your period. Which is, purely & simply, because your hormones make you more emotionally sensitive while pregnant/when you have your period & you might overreact if you don't like how it comes out.

There's no medical reason not to.
