rant

So, my ultimate goal with this pregnancy is to have a nice, natural home birth. My first birth was a drug-free, mostly intervention free hospital birth. I just feel like I keep getting railroaded at every turn. I've did meet a midwife a couple of weeks ago, and I really like her, but I've yet to follow up with her. I feel like it's hard to get out ( Read more... )

leg cramps, glucose testing, rants

I had a fetal echo done with my oldest and nothing was found with her either.

Hopefully everything starts going better with you

I agree, you already know what you want and it sounds like you need reassurance that your punkin really is ok. To me, it sounds like your doctors are playing the CYA game with you. Even if, in their professional opinion, nothing whatsoever was wrong with you or the baby, they'd still refer you for all sorts of exams and checkups JUST IN CASE something was wrong. Because if they didn't catch it, blame's on them.

Your first OB already dropped you. Switching to midwife care now makes the most sense, before your second OB submits you to a boatload of tests that may or may not indicate that you are too "high-risk" for the midwife to take you on. Follow your instincts. You're doing the right thing :)

If you refuse the 1hr. glucose do you have a meter so you can you can test your blood sugar periodically? I have no problems with skipping it and you are so right about false positives I just think it is a good idea if you do to keep track yourself.

The health dept. was trying to start that crap with me last pregnancy. I transferred myself to the midwife I am still with now and had a wonderful birth at the old Victorian style home they ran their birth center out of last year. I trust my midwives over any doctor any day. And the best part is, they don't do yucky orange drink with the glucose test. they feed you breakfast! It was something like 4 oz milk, 4 oz OJ, 2 pieces whole wheat toast and eggs. everything measured out to a certain amount. Then they wait 1 hour (you can soak in the nice big tub in the downstairs birth room if it's not used while you wait, or do a belly cast)then they do a finger stick. I am kinda pissed that medicaid did not cover birth centers when my sons(now 15 and 10) were born.

Also with my last one I knew what wanted like you but did not know how to get there either. But after one meeting with the midwife she basically took care of everything and helped me get it all set.

Why do they do the GTT with no reason? I see that a lot on here and I don't know anyone around here who has to go through that. They do a glucose test when they draw blood for all types of things the first doctors visit and then that is that unless there is reason for further testing.
Just say no thanks!
