SCH and baby aspirin?

Nov 14, 2009 06:13

I am 9 weeks and baby is looking great, but they found a subchorionic hemorrhage yesterday. They gave me the talk that it could go either way and I asked about my aspirin. I am on baby aspirin for a miscarriage at 8.5 weeks. I genuinely think it is helping, because I always had a problem with circulation and now that I'm on it, I feel so much ( Read more... )

Yayyyy!!! Didn't know you were preggo, I'm so happy for you!

I've never had SCH, but I would think the aspirin would not be helpful since it's a blood thinner. Are they going to call you back with an answer?

Thanks :) we are really excited. The OB just said to stop taking it even though she is unsure, so who knows...

I have not been on aspirin before, but I did (do?) have a SCH with this pregnancy, and was not advised to take any measures (and it was a bleeder like whoa). When I was first told about it, I did find that, on occasion, aspirin is prescribed for women with SCH, but it's generally later in pregnancy (when one appears third trimester and may cause an issue with the pregnancy). Most SCH resolve themselves (most of the time by being absorbed by the body) by 20 weeks. Perhaps they are concerned that taking the aspirin will make it more difficult for the body to reabsorb the SCH, potentially causing it to last longer?

As a note, I am now just about 19 weeks with a healthy pregnancy, after loads of massive bleeding thanks to my SCH. At 13 weeks it was still present, but I have not had any more bleeding since 11 weeks and the placenta appeared full secure at 13 weeks. I did not take any medication, nor have I gone on any sort of rest (pelvic, bed, exercise, or otherwise).

How big is your SCH? Have you found blood in your panties or on wiping yet?

I had one that bleed lightly for 2 days at at 6.2 weeks and now is resolved at 13.6. They still saw it on the ultrasound after my bleeding which means that my body absorbed it afterwards, which I believe is what happens for many of us.

Take your doctor's advice and stop the aspirin. Don't second guess. Call back if you still have concerns.

If your body can absorb it and you can avoid the absolute terror of having bleeding during pregnancy, I would recommend that. YMMV, though.

What is your reason for taking the baby aspirin? Do you have an actual medical condition? I am a bit confused by the "circulation problem" reasoning.

That being said, I take a BA for having MTHFR (which can lead to clotting), and I have had no increased bleeding issues. I did not have a hemorrhage, but I haven't noticed any increased bleeding anywhere which has been relieving as I was nervous about the BA.

Low dose aspirin therapy is way different than taking huge aspirins all the time. It alters your platelets to keep from over clotting situations, but it does not completely hinder your body from clotting. If I was in your situation and felt I needed the BA for a legit reason I would not quit taking it but that's just my opinion.

My OB put me on it to prevent miscarriage. Any other side effects are just an added bonus. They never tested me but said that the previous miscarriage was likely from a clotting issue.
