lochia question

I'm 12 weeks pp and wondering if I could still be having lochia. I went to my Dr at 8 weeks and explained I thought maybe I had an infection because it quit at about 6 weeks and came back at about 7 weeks. I was assured it's not, but I'm having yellowish thick sticky discharge (like pus, or sinus infection...). I don't think it's a yeast infection ( Read more... )

Lochia definitely shouldn't smell like pus. Nothing smells like pus but pus, and that would imply infection to me.

But...if they check you and say you're fine and you disagree you could get another medical opinion.

You should go back to your doctor to get it checked it out again, especially because of the smell and since you're 12 weeks postpartum. Lochia can last up to 6-8 weeks postpartum, and generally shouldn't smell bad... it can smell weird, and kinda fleshy, but not offensive and infection-y. Your doctor can help you figure out what it is, and what you need to do about it. Good luck!

It sounds a lot like you have something like bacterial vaginosis to me.

Yup! Also, are you experiencing irritation "down there?" I've had BV twice and both times there was an icky discharge and discomfort. The first time I had it, the itching was OMGHORRIFIC, but I think that's because I waited too long to see the doc.

BV is easily dealt with. Go to the doc, get your antibiotics, feel better.
