Just a not so great update

So I just had my first doctors appointment this past monday at 14 weeks. He decided to do a full pap since I hadn't had one this year. I just got the results back yesterday and turns out I have HPV..again. Last year I had a pap done that came back positive for HPV. It turned out to be the strand that can cause cancer so I had to have my cervix ( Read more... )

I am under the impression that the particular strand you have never goes away. HPV is tricky in that it can lay dormant for a while, but as you can see, sometimes something like the hormonal roller coaster of pregnancy can cause it to be active again.

I thought the same thing. I thought HPV was a virus that, like herpes, never goes away. It can be dormant, but can't be "cured".

A healthy immune system can fight off HPV and cause it to go dormant though it can reappear later as mentioned above when/if your immune system is compromised. The strain that causes warts is not the same as the strain that causes cancer, as there are something like 40 plus different strains.

Pretty much what y'all said, I just like throwing my sex educator hat on when I can since I'm not working right now. =D

Aw, I'm sorry to hear! I'm sure all will turn out for the best.
I'm 15 weeks. Next week I go in for an ultrasound and I have hopes that MAYBE they'll be able to see SOMETHING. Maybe a clue to the gender. haha.
I know it's somewhat possible at 16 weeks..just not as realibe as it would be at like 20.

I've been through that as well, I know how you feel! It didnt affect my pregnancy or birth at all with my first son. It wont affect this pregnancy either :)

This is really, really common; I had an abnormal pap many years ago and have had no abnormal ones since, but several friends of mine have had some mild recurrences. You and the baby will be fine -- the only important thing is that they watch it and you continue to attend followup appointments (i.e., don't let it go untreated for 4 years; that is when things can go wrong with the "bad" strains).

One of my friends who recently had a recurrence at a pre-conception counseling appointment was told by her doctor that there is no reason whatsoever that she should put off ttc just because of the HPV. So try not to worry too much. :)
