Evening Primrose Oil

So, tomorrow I'm 38 Weeks - and today I had my weekly check up.  Apparently my cervix is long, hard, and totally not dilated.  Baby is still "floating" at -4 station.

So, I've taken matters into my own hands, and purchased some Evening Primrose Oil (500 mg caps).  Everything I'm reading on the web recommends they be started at 34-36 weeks, 1 cap by ( Read more... )

I started taking EPO at 38 weeks as well. I took 2 500 mg capsules vaginally each night. I found that applying them right to the source was effective. I was 4 cm dilated and 80 percent effaced for days before I even got any contractions or went into labor. You can do that and also take 1 or two orally if you choose as well.

Thanks - I think I'll try 2 per day - by mouth (unless SO doesn't want to "put out"). :D

Oh, and my labor only lasted 7 hours and she was my first. So I think it helped with that as well.

my midwife likes ladies to use the epo vaginally toward the end...

I think I'll do that when SO doesn't want to "do the deed". Thanks for the input!

semen can help soften the cervix too.

SO doesn't want to do the deed sometimes? Wow! Some might call that lucky :)

My son was born at 38 weeks, and I was taking three caps (I think? Maybe it was two..) orally and puncturing one and rubbing the oil on my lower belly. I kept meaning to try them vaginally, but my husband and I were having sex and it was really hard to reach my vagina, let alone my cervix!

My first cervical check was when I walked into the hospital - 9 cm and she could feel the head - and my second cervical check was 20 minutes or so later and I was ready to go and she could see his head. I don't know if epo did that or if I was lucky, but I figure it certainly didn't hurt!

I know I can't reach my cervix - I haven't seen my vagina in so long...

but I'm willing to try. :)

Hope it's as effective for me!

Put a couple gel-capsules inside you before you go to bed (but wear a pantyliner; it can get a bit oozy).

I took 2000mg orally (I would take less vaginally) and my OB raved about my soft cervix. I did 3000mg at 38 weeks.

That's awesome! Thanks so much.

How much did you take vaginally?

Today I've done RRL tea (which I've been doing), 1000 mg EPO (orally) and 500 mg vaginally.

How far along were you with your first?

I did not take any vaginally because I was too big of a wuss.
I was 39 weeks.
RRL Tea was very helpful too!

Thanks! My favorite pair of panties - I bought them on Etsy a couple of years ago. Sadly, the shop is no longer open...

I think it was called feral feminine or something like that.
