For those that posted with supportive comments to my recent post on screening positive for Downs Syndrome, thank you so much. It helped put everything into perspective :) I had the level 2 ultrasound and they found no signs on abnormalities :D Not that it would have changed anything for me anyways. We also found out that this baby is a girl... our ( Read more... )

I'm glad the ultrasound found everything to be normal. And congratulations on your little girl!

Is there any reason why you need to have a hospital birth? Might you be able to have a home birth with a midwife? They tend to be a lot more supportive of women and their needs than traditional obstetricians (not that great obstetricians don't exist, but the really good ones are few and far between, unfortunately).

I'd love to have the baby at the nearby birthing center. However, my insurance doesn't cover birthing centers, nor homebirths. It does cover midwives, but only under an OB, and all the OBs in this area that have midwives do not accept my insurance. I also don't have $4500 to pay for it out of pocket.

It's crazy how they dealt with the whole issue there. As with ALL the tests I've had done, (even various ultrasounds,) I had the reasons and implications all explained to me before I had the tests done. That's how it SHOULD be done!

I was offered the test and had it explained to me fully the chances of a child actually having downs as a result of a positive test were very slim anyway, and we opted not to have that particular test, I didn't really see the point. (anyway I'm anemic, I need all the blood I can hold on to! hehe)

Congrats on a little girl!

Aw, man, I'm so sorry that your Doctor (or someone in his practice) treated you that way! That's terrible! I wish you the best of luck in finding someone new... it's so hard to find a good OBGYN! For me, anyway.
