I laid on my back to sleep quite a bit pretty much up until the last few weeks when it wasn't comfortable anymore. I have never heard about the crossing legs/ankles thing and did this throughout my pregnancy until i couldn't anymore.
When I first started feeling the baby move, there would be times when I would go days without feeling anything at all. I'm sure you're fine but if you are worried, I'd call your doc and see if you can go in for an ultrasound or a doppler check.
You're not supposed to cross your legs? I do this allll the time, and when I'm sitting on the couch with the laptop my legs are always folded and the laptop is on top....I've noticed that my legs start to fall asleep SUPER easily now...maybe like not even 10 minutes after I've crossed/folded my legs. Maybe its related (blood circulation, etc)? I know I sure as hell don't want varicose veins, tho!
As for the laying on your back thing, thats usually the only position I find comfortable now. You'd have to lay flat on your back for 24 hours straight before it starts affecting the baby, so I think you're OK.
Just do whatever is comfortable, and you're body will tell you when its time to move. =)
1. It's normal :) I'm feeling the same exact thing. I'm already overweight to begin with, but it never bugged me before I was pregnant. As long as there's no swelling it's normal. Sitting with your feet elevated when you get the chance can help, as does massage.
2. Yay unsolicited advice! Get used to it :-/ As long as you're not feeling like it's too much, physical activity is perfectly fine. Some women even run while pregnant.
4. At this point in your pregnancy it's nothing to worry about. Your baby is probably not big enough to be felt all over right now, or he may just be hanging out kicking the placenta and you can't feel it. I'm 20 weeks and only feel movement on my left side and arely anywhere else and someone told me that might be the case. You're too early to be "counting kicks". Plus if you're busy, baby's probably moving you're just too preoccupied to notice!
It isn't just pregnant women that shouldn't cross their legs if they are worried about varicose veins it is anybody. My family has a horrible history of varicose veins (3 of 5 aunts and my mother). I don't even know if I'm pregnant yet and I'm trying not to cross my legs any more.
But that is me. I have the family history. I'm also 38 and not in the best shape. Don't freak out if you cross your legs but be aware that crossing you legs does affect your circulation and change your behavior if you think you are at risk.
I've asked my doctor about laying on my back during pregnancy, she said it only affects the baby if you're going to be doing it for long periods of time and this is due to the extra weight, it's basically just uncomfortable for the baby.
The jumping around thing, I don't believe is anything to look to much into. I'm a jogger and have continued to go on my runs up until about two weeks ago due to the heat we've been experiencing here. I can barely go for a walk outside let alone run.
To avoid you're feet hurting, I'd say just keep them elevated or coax your husband into giving you a nice long foot/leg massage after you've been standing for a while :)
With my first pregnancy, I was so paranoid when I didn't feel my son moving around, especially when he was moving alot a few days prior. I would think it just depends on your own physical activity, the more you do the less movement you notice.
