What exactly is the difference between a punishment and a "learning experience?" Apparently nothing, especially when there is no antecedent.

Even if said action is dangerous to the one it involves.

don't deserve prison, miss rose is not amused, warden issues, inquiries, poor pitiful me

Actually no. This is the first. And all for nothing.

Exactly. And now, Sergeant Howie, I am no longer allowed in my room.

Oh no, Sergeant. I'm supposed to "socialize." And apparently his idea of socialization involves putting me out with nothing.

And I know plenty. Polytheistic religions, both of them, which I was interested in. I suppose you've met our local Romans and Aztec...goddess?

Is this in regards to the barge in general, or something more specific?

Locked. Out of my room. No place to sleep, no place to go. With all sorts of dangerous types aboard.

And for what? Because I won't write an essay for him at the end of the week.

Private - Crane don't mind. He's only got one bb. doctor_j_crane July 2 2010, 06:12:35 UTC
Would you like to come from my room? There's the Joker out there. Your warden is socially irresponsible.

Not just the clown, Crane. This ship is full of dangerous types.

But, if you're offering, I suppose that is my best option.

Punishment is justice for a criminal act, that's the difference.

And if there is no criminal act?

Then there should be no punishment. Having said that, some criminals are unaware they have committed anything.

Why do you ask?

Because I have done nothing wrong! My warden wishes me to write a paper for him at the end of every week. I refused because the idea is childish and absurd, and so I return to my room. It's locked, but my journal is there, as well as a note from my warden.

In my experience, the authorities call punishment a "learning experience" when they wish to gloat about their power over you.

What has happened, if I may inquire?

My room has been locked to me.

What?! Why have you been barred?

Is there something I may do to help, milady?

It is merely for humiliation's sake, I'm sure. A bid for me to bend to my warden's will.

At the moment, no. I do not need help.
