OOC;
name: Stephanie
age: 20
experience: Over a year as (South) Mexico,
salylimon.
IC;
nation: Other World Kingdom
name: Veronika Dvořáková (-Miller)
nickname(s): Dominika (see: Secret)
age: 32
date of birth: June 1, 1978
hometown: Born in Okres Žďár nad Sázavou, a district in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. She moved to Prague with her family, however, when she was ten.
occupation: Women and Gender Studies Professor at Liberty University.
residence: A seemingly unassuming
home in Shoreline that she commissioned to be built by La Maison de Perfection.
family: Eva Dvořáková (mother) and James Miller (father). However, she also has a cousin that she's rather close to, though shall remain unnamed for the time being (i.e. it's the Czech Republic).
first impression: "Why....why is that woman carrying around a steel ruler?"
1. At first glance, Professor Dvořáková seems like a relatively sane and "normal" (but what is normal but a socially constructed idea?) woman. Exceedingly attractive? Quite. But surely she's nothing out of the ordinary! No, she is.
She reigns over her class with a sweet smile but a rather sadistic streak. Raise your hand in class and she'll question you and play the Devil's Advocate until you're on the verge of frustrated tears. Come to her office hours and she'll be the one asking you questions rather than the other way around. ("What is your opinion of Foucault's idea of bio-power and anatamo-politics in relation to the utilization of women's ability to procreate?" "M-Ma'am, that wasn't on the assigned reading-" "But it was suggested reading, love! Why did you not do as I suggested?")
In the end, it's been said that students who have come to face Professor Dvořáková often get the following response at the first sign of a tear : "A good student never complains, miláček." She'll eventually help the poor dear, of course. But that doesn't mean that she won't try to bring out some kind of reaction from her students.
*In BDSM culture, psychological punishment and humiliation are often used by Dominants to control their submissive partner, with or without the use of physical touches or teasing. In regards to Veronika, her methods of teaching often reflect this belief that, if push comes to shove (read: if her students are hysterical enough to seek out her help) the outcome of their work and overall learning experience will be much more acceptable, as they, her students, have submitted themselves completely to what she wanted them to do. Sort of.
2. Her lectures tend to revolve around subjects most people would expect out of an introductory course for Women and Gender Studies. Time and time again, she'll remind her class that this idea of a "global sisterhood" via this presumed Western feminist ideology is completely unachievable if one does not tackle it with a transnational feminist perspective that takes in the cultural and societal differences of women around the world. However, this aside, Professor Dvořáková has been known to lecture on and on about how the majority of today's so-called civilizations should reject this notion of a patriarchy, or patriarchal based hierarchy of power, in favor of the establishment of a supreme and all-powerful Matriarchy. This supreme Matriarchy, then, would consist of women as supreme rulers (she's quite taken with the mythological figure of the Amazons, really) and men as nothing more than their submissive subjects.
Or slaves. She's quite taken with the idea of male slaves, really. That's all she wants out of life.
*The Other World Kingdom, or OWK, has specifically stated the following: "The goal of the OWK is to get as many male creatures under the unlimited rule of Superior Women on as much territory as possible. Gradual realization of this goal in its final consequence will mean the introduction of an Absolute Matriarchy - the only righteous social order."
3. See, what most people don't know about her (specifically her colleagues, family, and students) is that, aside from her job as a professor, Veronika also works as a professional dominatrix. In other words, she's paid to play the role of a Dominant, or domme, for a set amount of time. She doesn't consider it as being a form of prostitution as sexual intercourse is often never involved during her appointments (though, you should consider sitting in on her lectures about the difference between decriminalizing prostitution and legalizing prostitution or her lecture on human trafficking, it's all rather interesting, really).
However, Liberty's BDSM scene, underground or not, is rather small and severely lacking in regards to what she's used to in Europe and the American cities of New York and San Francisco. If she can't go out of town, however, she's not above placing an ad on Craigslist for anyone seeking a night (or two) with the infamous Madame Dominika. Though, doing that often pains her as she tends to be requested by the same people.
She doesn't know how many times she's had to tell Mr. Cunningham that, no, cuddling wasn't part of the deal and he should pay her before she leaves him gagged and cuffed to the bed so no one will ever find him.
*SO THAT WORD VOMIT ASIDE, HERE'S THE DEAL: Women often take up the role of professional dominatrix or "lifestyle" Dominatrix/Mistress (basically, those that only do this at home and not for pay). At the same time, there are women that live as both professional and "lifestyle" Mistresses. For now, Veronika is only a professional Dominatrix. This mention of prostitution is also a reference to prostitution in the Czech Republic, where it is legal and a source of tourism for the country.
4. When asked why and how she got into BDSM and femdom, Veroknika never knows how to answer them. Oh, that isn't to say that she hasn't used explanations revolving around how much she loves the power she has over men or how much the lifestyle excites her both sexually and psychologically. But that aside, she's oftentimes at a loss. There was nothing major that happened to her when she was young. No childhood trauma, no emotional or physical abuse, no love affairs gone wrong. She had a relatively normal childhood as the daughter of a Czech mother and American father that both cared for her and loved her dearly. So it frustrates her, really, when someone assumes that her lifestyle should be labeled more as antisocial behavior from the direct result of (non-existent) trauma and mental illness.
*While the assumption has been revoked by psychiatrists, the popular belief regarding this form of so-called sexual deviance is that BDSM lifestyles derive themselves from mental illness or antisocial behavior. While it's not to say that past trauma and abuse is not apparent for some individuals, most members of the BDSM culture have in fact been proven to be rather sane and healthy (two popular mottos often used in accordance to BDSM culture consist of "SSC: Safe Sane and Consensual" and "RACK: Risk Aware Consensual Kink").
5. BDSM and sadistic teaching methods aside, Veronika has another bit of a quirky habit. In and out of class, she's been known to carry around a steel ruler on her person at all times. It's really not anything special, really. It's just that, sometimes, when she gets excited about something she's talking or lecturing about (or if she needs to have her class quiet down or needs someone to stop texting/sleeping in class), she often feels the need to slap said ruler against a flat surface. Because, honestly, it's probably not socially accepted to lecture in class while snapping a whip against the floor to get people's undivided attention.
6. See, there's a reason why Veronika commissioned La Maison de Perfection to build her home before she moved to Liberty. She wanted something special, really, something that represented her and her lifestyle. So, what better thing to have built than a decked out BDSM torture chamber in her basement? Yes, a torture chamber. Unlike those rumors revolving around some German, French, or English man (she can never get the facts straight) and their (mostly likely non-existent) "basement of (horrible) wonders," Veroknika does in fact have a room dedicated to BDSM.
Unfortunately, Liberty makes it difficult to fully utilize it considering it's aforementioned lack of a BDSM scene.
*Taken from the OWK wikipedia page: "The main building is the Queen's Palace, which is the residence of the monarch, and contains a banqueting hall, library, throne room, torture chamber, schoolroom, gym, and extensive basement prison...Additional visitor accommodation is provided in the Long House, including the Countess Elizabeth Báthory Chambers complete with two torture chambers."
7. See, as proud as Veronika is of her lifestyle, finding someone to date (even temporarily) is always a difficult task. Many of the men and women she's dated initially find her overzealous beliefs and lectures (not rants, never rants) attractive and things always appear as though they're going quite smoothly. And, in a sense, the relationship does begin with few to no bumps. But it's not until her partner finds out about her alternative lifestyle (or not until she attempts to "spice up things in the bedroom") that her aforementioned partner freaks out and promptly breaks up with her. Granted, they always find her more vanilla antics arousing until she brings out the clamps, whips, chains, and leather. So, in a sense, it can be said that Veronika often feels rather lonely - which is probably why the idea of males slaves seems all the more appealing on those cold winter nights spent eating ice cream while watching late night television (or when she's complaining to her cousin back in the Czech Republic).
8. As mentioned earlier, Veronika comes from a bicultural family. Her mother was born in the Czech Republic while her father was born in San Francisco, California. They initially met in Prague when her father was there on vacation with his brother. The two hit it off immediately and...yes, Veronika's life was rather dull and as normal as normal can be seen or defined. However, she does have a cousin (the Czech Republic) that she's rather close to. Though whether or not they agree with her lifestyle is a different matter. But so long as they don't tell her parents, Veronika could care less. Again, as proud as she is, the poor woman would be left feeling mortified if her poor parents ever found out about their daughter's (sexual) preferences.
* Apparently, the ethnic groups that make up the Other World Kingdom consist of Europeans (nationalities are disclosed for some reason) and Americans. And since the OWK is located in the Czech Republic, I figured it'd make more sense for Veronika to have familial ties with the nation itself.
9. As opposed as Veronika is to falling into so-called traditional feminine roles and breaking away from her sex positive beliefs, Veronika loves to cook. Cooking is one of the things that Veronika could care little about when it comes to traditional gender roles. Whether it be
svíčková na smetaně, brisket, or BBQ ribs, Veronika will take the time to lovingly prepare it. However, if she doesn't feel the desire for Czech cuisine, she'll often be found eating out (because having someone else prepare her food for her is amazing). However, come the holiday season, Veronika often finds herself in a baking frenzy. Really, her
vánočka and Christmas cookies (or vánoční cukroví) are absolutely to die for.
*The abundance of meat related dishes has to do with the fact that, in the Czech Republic (and the United States to an extent), the cooking and consumption of meat is often highly emphasized.
10. One mustn't look at Veronika and think that BDSM is all she lives for (I have no idea how many times I've used that term in this app so far). No, as cliché as it is, music is another great enjoyment of hers. Her image may make it seem as if her thoughts spring up with death metal and indusrial music as its background noise, but those genres actually give her massive headaches. If anything, she tends to enjoy opera, classical, and traditional Czech music the most. Oh, and 80s music. Veronika loves her some Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Soft Cell, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Not enough for her to go to clubs, though. She's never been into the actual clubbing scene. Though, she does enjoy frequenting 80s revival parties. Those are always quite fun - REALLY. SHE JUST LIKES WEARING NEON TIGHTS AND LEG WARMERS WITHOUT BEING JUDGED.
*No real explanation other than Czech music has roots both in high-culture opera/symphony and in the traditional music of Czechia. And she seems like the type to like 80s music. Yeah.
SECRET: There's actually a reason why her nickname happens to be Dominika. Most people, however, don't know of this nickname - unless they've happened to picked up one of her six year old BDSM porn tapes. Yes, porn. As in, Veronika briefly dabbled in the porn industry under the alias of Madame Dominika, focusing primarily on femdom and S&M. She didn't quit out of shame but because she found herself much too be busy trying to get her Ph.D in Women and Gender Studies to really care much about making a career out of her work in pornography.
Granted, most of her work consisted of few instances of actual, ah, penetration, as sexual intercourse is often unrequired for a BDSM lfiestyle - unless asked for or consented at the get-go. But yes. Professor Dvořáková was a porn star. She's not exactly sure how she'd ever handle having one of her students stumble upon this. Well, aside from her staring at them, straight faced, before asking, "Yes. That is me. Does it bother you, miláček? I thought I taught you better than to impose your socially constructed norms and beliefs unto other people."
*The name Dominka is actually a real name used by women in the Czech Republic. But Veronika figured that some of the idiots involved in the American porn industry would probably not know that and figured that she was instead making some sort of pun. Her confusion and amused annoyance, it was great.

Sometimes, Veronika had to question whether or not working as a professional dominatrix suited her current lifestyle. She was a professor, a beacon of light for those that have been poorly misguided in their understandings of sex and gender and that which they mistakenly consider normal or abnormal. She was an educator that needed to focus more on her academic prowess rather than focus on that which made her feel both happy, alive, and dare she say it, powerful.
But attempting to be only half of what made up the whole of her person was, to be honest, an impossible and unwanted feat. She had no one special in her life, no (what do these silly Americans call it?) “sex buddy” to indulge her and her seemingly taboo fantasies, fetishes, and desires. So the possibility of trading her professional and alternative work with something more personal and stay-at-home was, well, it just wasn’t there. And the thought was depressing, really. So much so that Veronika found herself debating whether or not she should call her dear maminka and have her listen to her daughter’s woes. Granted, Veronika knew that she would have to, ah, reword and edit the way she would explain her situation to her dear mother.
”I’ll never find someone that will love and respect me for me, maminka!”
That would take too much effort, though. Something might accidentally slip out and-
A sudden noise.
Veronika paused and stalked over to the source of the noise and bent down, a slow smile beginning to curl on her lips before she straighted once more. Her leg stretched out, the dim lighting catching the slight gleam of her leather boots as she tucked the toes of her feet beneath the bound man’s chin as she practically purred out, “When did I allow you to speak, miláčku?”
