I have a trip to India coming up at me, and as all of my travels, this too has me in the clutches of crushing pre-travel anxiety.  I decided to watch a movie and picked the 1978 Kannada movie Parasangada Gendethimma starring noted Kannada actor Lokesh.  The movie however left me with deeply mixed feelings, which I'll come to, in a moment, but

When do you leave for India and how long will you be there? I get extreme trip nerves eve after all these years of so much travel. That's the problem...those of us who travel know just what can go wrong.

I leave early tomorrow (3rd). I have tried various strategies to fight the nerves, but I can only hope to rein it in to some extent; It'll never leave me, though.

ನಿಮ್ಮ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಓದಿದೆ. ಬಹಳ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಅವಲೋಕಿಸಿದ್ದೀರ. ನನಗೂ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅದೇ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆಗಳು ಮೂಡಿತು.

ನೀವು ಇನ್ನೂ ಆ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾಪಕ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತೀರೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕನಿಗೆ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು own assumptionಗೆ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಉದಾ:

ತಿಮ್ಮನ ಮನೆ ಅವ‌ನ‌ ತಾಯಿಯ ಮನೆ ಹತ್ತಿರವೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ ಅವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆ? ಬಹುಶ: ಅವರ ಕಣ್ಣೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿ ಇದು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.

ಆದರೆ ಒಂದು ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ಕಥೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಡುವ logic ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ತಿಮ್ಮನ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಿದ ನಂತರದಿಂದಲೂ ಅವಳಿಗೆ 'ಪರಸಂಗ ಐತೆ' ಎಂದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕ್ರಮೇಣವಾಗಿ ಅನುಮಾನ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿನಲ್ಲೇ ನೋವಿನಿಂದ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಆದರೆ ತಿಮ್ಮನೂ ಅವಳೊಂದಿಗೆ 'ಸಂಸಾರ' ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾನಲ್ಲವೆ. ಅಂದಮೇಲೆ ಈ‌ ಅನುಮಾನ ಬರಲು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯ (climaxನಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡುವ ಮುಂಚೆ)?
ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೂಕ್ತ ವಿವರಣೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿ.

No mystery there. He always has insecurities on being less read and less polished than his wife, and when the bunch of villagers tell him that his wife is having an affair, he realizes it is true, though he beats them for taunting him. The climax confirms his fears and suspicions. In all, a rather distasteful movie. The last scene shows a contrite looking Thimma's mother who I feel was almost directly responsible for the entire tragedy.
