I was watching a movie called 'Just like heaven', in which a character uses the word 'Righteous' where one would expect 'Right'.  When I thought about the usage, I realized that it was not exactly used out of place.  I looked up origin of the word 'Right', wondering whether it was after all a truncated version of 'Righteous' and found something ( Read more... )

I think the evolution of the language would only disturb you if you kept yourself static at one point, and used it as a reference. If you sort of consider language evolving like a tapestry...different words/usages at different points, including the "place" where you are......it won't disturb you.

Why do you think the King James version of the Bible was written? Because the original Latin could no longer be understood! So you are right...it will probably be re-written again (and people will complain, again, about how the 'original' is more beautiful and sonorous and all the rest of it!)
