Prose/poem from the past

Sifting through my drawers, looking for something, I came across numerous mementos from my past..including a poem I'd almost forgotten that I'd written. It was inspired by a Panchatantra tale I suppose. Here it is:

A test of true love

A flightless emu and a brilliant white pigeon,
Fell in love with each other.
The flight loving pigeon yearned for the ( Read more... )

Intelligently written!

Wonder what Panchatantra story you were referring to.

I always heard that love is selfless and one can sacrifice everything to the other. I believe though that love is selfish. Yes it is. Because one is selfish to have the other so we sacrifice everything. Aint that selfish? Just thoughts. :)

Thanks.. there was this Panchatantra story in which a tortoise befriends a bird and convinces it to pluck off it's feathers to avoid the temptation of flying away, leaving the tortoise alone. The bird does that to comply with the tortoise's request out of affection. However, one day, a falcon spots it and swoops to attack it. The bird cries out to the tortoise to help, but the tortoise only has tears in his eyes.. The bird realizes that if only it had it''s wing feathers, it could have fought to survive but now, it was little more than bait on a hook. It sadly waves goodbye to the tortoise and laments it's own foolishness in doing what was against it's very instinct and awaits it's destruction by the falcon. Love, without an element of selfishness and love based on compromises can not really survive the tests of time. Understanding and compromises, though seem similar in nature, are certainly not the same ( ... )

Oh that story. Now I remember it.

I agree to Ayn Rand too, with a little twist of my own. :)

An emu and a pigeon!

This is the first time I've seen Love referred to as a masculine entity....however, I believe that love does mean compromise...so while I like the beauty of the last two lines...I don't agree.
