Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop [for blainewanderson]

Saturday had felt forever in the coming, the rest of Kurt's week at McKinley dragging by at half the normal speed. Not even the things he normally loved - Glee club, and working with his dad at the shop - made time go any faster. It was as if the universe didn't want Saturday to ever arrive ( Read more... )

The housekeeper answered the door, inviting him in and greeting him warmly, an older woman who had a particularly pleased maternal-smile when Blaine was asked for. She put her hands on Kurt's shoulders, ushering him through the foyer into the guest den, clean and perfect and looking untouched like a set from a movie more than a room people used. There was the sound of heels clicking on the immaculate floors, and a well dressed woman came in with a much tighter smile, offering a cool hand to Kurt. "Pleased to make your acquaintance young man. I am Mrs. Anderson. I had Blaine write your name down. Kurt Hummel. Are you part of the Boston Hummels? My family knew them from the Vineyard. It would be lovely to know some of their kin had come to Ohio," she asked in a polite, crisp tone, waving her hand at the sofa, inviting him to sit, asking the housekeeper to get them some iced water with lemon, without asking Kurt if he wanted any, as was her way ( ... )

Kurt was rather taken aback by the formality of Blaine's mother, the neatness of the room he found himself in. He sat awkwardly on the edge of the seat, legs crossed and hands on his top knee, feeling like he had to make himself as neat as his surroundings.

"I..." he also hadn't been expecting the inquisition on his family. As far as he was aware, he didn't have any family in Boston, but he was more than a little concerned that he'd be thrown out the house if he admitted to it. "I've never been to Boston," he said instead, not a lie and not really answering the woman's question.

"Is Blaine ready?" He added before he could be asked any more about his family.

"Oh you must, it's delightful, if a little bourgeois, but you know, it's part of its Puritan charm," she smiled tightly, really taking a closer look at the boy before her, realizing she couldn't put her finger on the name of the labels he was wearing. Maybe she'd Google his name later and find out more about these Hummels from Lima ( ... )

Kurt had to bite down on his bottom lip to keep from retorting rudely when Mrs Anderson admitted that she didn't even know how to communicate with her son. Kurt could scarcely believe it, couldn't imagine living with parents who cared nothing for him.

So, he was more than a little relieved when Blaine appeared, sparing him from answering Mrs Anderson's questions about how they knew each other, and what they were up to. Bad. Very bad. he answered Blaine with a smile, slowly rising to stand.

"My apologies, Mrs Anderson, but we really must be going."
