Giving Thanks

The growing season in Alberta has officially come to an end. Night and days have been getting colder and colder, and this morning I woke up to frost covering the grass for the first time. Thanksgiving on a farm in the prairies has wrecked me for thanksgiving anywhere else. Sure, I'll still give thanks and will marvel at what I've got, but a part of me will always yearn to be on the farm, with all the colours.

Oh Prairie, I *miss* Thanksgiving with you. I didn't even celebrate the Canadian version, I slept through it, 'cuase I was sickish. I'll get a weird middle version at home, when the Brett clan descends on DC for an early november pseudo-Thanksgiving, but I miss our apartment and cooking in that silly thin little kitchen and eating on the couch in my room, or the window sill in yours. I miss falling asleep on your bed when you were busy making reeds and I couldn't convince myself to be nearly as productive on random single-day holidays. I think I'm going to go look up ticket prices to Edmonton...
