So figure out the total costs and start fundraising! Finding the donations for cancer shouldn't be too hard, actually, and while you're soliciting those you're more likely to be able to find people to donate to your costs too.

People fund raise for projects like that all the time -- you can do it too. You have the door-opener. You can approach rotaries and the like for this kind of project, where you couldn't for just "I want to go to Australia."
