This is a wonderful 'verse and I'm glad you've written more. Mystique's thoughts about passing are fascinating - as well as Erik's sewing skills and the logistics involved in setting up a secret base - and I liked Erik's pragmatism about Emma. Azazel's comments explain an awful lot about movieverse Emma (who is very unlike the comicsverse version) which makes me think that something deeply nasty - possibly named Shaw - happened to her at a fairly young age.

It took me a while to figure out where I wanted to set the Brotherhood's HQ. I finally settled on Chicago because I really love that city because it's always been a city for radicals. And I think it plays well against Charles's super-upper-class up-state New York local.
I agree that Shaw probably did something very horrible to Emma, probably when she was young. Obviously, we know from Erik's case that there's no abuse that he'd shy away from inflicting upon a child. Though I think he was probably more subtle in Emma's case, the results might have been more damaging...
I agree that Shaw may have been more subtle with Emma because I think he would have needed her more than he needed Erik at the time; and yes, that's potentially far more damaging.
