Oh, I read this book about the restoration of the paintings (and other info). Can't remember who the broody guy is but I think the woman with the book might be... Sibylla? *googles*

Haha, ok I was both wrong and right. Handy wiki page identifying all the paintings. The characters in those spots are Prophets (seven, I think?) and Sibyls/prophetesses (five). The one with the book is the Libyan Sibyl (by the name of Phemonoe ( wiki article, apparently her face was believed to be on the moon, among other things ) and the broody guy is Jeremiah.

Also, I like the first picture you posted, the effect with the high colour in the foreground figures vs. the bg really makes them pop out. And communicates that the background events are more symbolical/a vision rather than happening there right then, I assume? *ponders*

It's so clearly communicative it kind of reminds me of comicbook art, actually. Also it's just pretty. x3

Oooh handy guide! Thanks! I meant to look for one, as I was going through my pics, but didn't get to it.

Re: the first picture. I also reeeeeeeally liked it. I think, stylistically I liked it better than what was in the actual Sistine Chapel! For the same reasons as you really. Also it was more... accessible? Being only 8ish feet away rather than 40 or however many.

Really? In the actual Sistine Chapel there were loads of guards watching to make sure no one used flash, which resulted in a lot of blurry photos on my part :/

I think the things in Rome make it worth it, 'cause there's SO MUCH. But for a wandering around taking it in type city, no thank you 8D;;
