Chick-flick Weekend

Jun 01, 2008 22:16

If some of you haven't figured it out already, I'm not much of a "girly girl." I hate dressing up, wear makeup only when I have to, and like watching baseball. However, there are a few "girly" things I enjoy, namely chick flicks and chick lit.

So you can imagine my anticipation at seeing "Sex and the City" on the big screen during its opening ( Read more... )

The first time Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha each appeared on screen, gasps and screams filled the theater. The gasps and screams continued during almost every piece of dialoguye that was spoken between any of the characters; and, in case janeausten and I couldn't hear what was being said on the screen, a helpful woman sitting in front of us -- who we suspect had one too many cosmos -- would loudly repeat any line that she found particularly funny (she did this a lot).

Ha! Oh man, that's horrible. I would be moved to homicide as well if I'd have had to sit through that. Makes me glad I avoided going to see the movie. My cousin went to see it - she's definitely one of those women who would have been oohing and cooing at the screen because she did all of that as she recapped what happened for me. I like Jason Lewis.

I think if you wait until it's been out for a couple of weeks, all the "Screaming Mimis" will have already seen it, and you can enjoy it in relative silence. In retrospect, this is what I would have done.

I have never seen a Sex in the City show. I was asked to attend by a friend that was having a girls movie night out.
I was totally sure that I would have the same experience. I opted out. Maybe now I am glad that I did.
I am sorry, to be honest this would totally big me.
I like public courteous, respectful, or considerate act of movie enjoyment. I have to use the subtitles at home, because for me hearing really is also about reading lips.
That would have had me in a riot.

I might have won the mega bitch award when I asked every one to shut the blankety up!!
Sorry Lady.
Dessert sounds delightful.

Looking back, I would have waited until this weekend to go, because all the scary women probably will have seen it the weekend it opened. Oh well!

That sounds terrible. Getting into the right theater at the right time is kind of an art - if I had more money, more time, and the good theater were closer, I'd have advice on it. As it is, just remember 12AM = diehards, opening day = diehards who are energized from not being up at 12AM. Also, this is one of the cases where I'd advocate complaining to the theater -- it doesn't, as far as I can tell, cost them money to let you see it properly later.
