I love the subtleties in this as well. The way you/Steven changes from calling him Malkin to Geno, the fact that Steven tries to keep his smartass-ness in check (and the whole "press" thing -- so realistic and brilliant) the way Geno falters in keeping up with English and the colloquialisms in the language...and how that changes SO FAST as so as they get to the room. I fell in love with this piece as soon as I read the line, "But at the end of the night Steven is in Geno’s hotel room and Geno is unbuckling his pants." He can't verbally keep up, but physically he is a force to be reckoned ( ... )

Names are such an interesting thing in hockey. There is a certain amount of distance in using Malkin over Geno. They might play in the same league, but they don't know each other.
The physicality of Geno was something I really tried to emphasize. He might not get Steven's humor, but he can read Steven. And, I think, Geno knew they'd have a good time together. Sure, there is an edge to it, but Steven doesn't really mind.
Thank you again for the kind comments and the rec. I hope your friend enjoys this too.
