I like heart in hand a lot, reread it today, and squealed when I saw there was a sequel. And I liked the sequel!

Thanks!

I thought of you when I posted this. Poor you, having to study and being seriously interwebz deprived.

(Not that I don't have to study, really, but, meh. I'm the only one that gets to screw with my education.)

I really like this. I like how much you leave unspoken between them, and I was touched in both parts of this story by the bittersweet quality of John's inner voice. In this story, I especially like the way Sherlock seems to recognize that - however perfect a match he is for John in many ways - this life of danger and adventure and friendship involves more of a sacrifice on her side than it does on his. The possibility of family is not something Sherlock ever wanted, it costs him nothing to give it up, but John did want it once. Her kids would have been pretty amazing. Even though she's found her best destiny with Sherlock, there are genuinely good and fulfilling things that get ruled out of her life by her choice to be with him. And not just because he has no interest in a physical relationship - it's their whole perilous and madcap lifestyle that rules out the possibility of raising children. I like how complex that is, and I love that Sherlock's response to it is gratitude, pure and profound gratitude to her for what she has ( ... )

I really like the feel of this - somber and realistic without being wrenching.
