I actually see Buffy as Kirk's awesome and strangely youthful Gramma (on Dad's side) that had been previously estranged from the family but re-emerged to be in Jim's life right after the hotrod going over the cliff incident...

As in, she timetravelly grew up to be Winona Kirk, and wasn't there for the Frank debacle or the Pike conversation because she happened to be out Slaying, but was otherwise a mom of awesome? That could be fun to write.....
