So, I should have posted a couple of days ago, saying "Please Vote!" I should have posted last night, saying "Yay! We won the U.S. House! And Katherine Harris lost!" I should have posted this afternoon, saying "Yay! We got the U.S. Senate too! And George 'Macaca' Allen lost!" But then I ganked this icon from ijk and finally decided to post. * ( Read more... )

I can't imagine the country electing another Bush anytime soon.

If I *had* to choose a Republican president though, Jeb would make the short list. Aside from the Schaivo debacle, he handled crisis pretty well. 'Course, there's better: McCain and Powell, for starters.

(His behavior regarding Schaivo was deplorable, and it's the one time where I thought Jeb should follow W's lead. But *aside* from that, he's struck me as the lesser of two Republican evils.)

Well I hadn't even looked at LJ in months, and the first thing I see and comment on is this. You know what's sad? I didn't even know we had elections this year, much less this week. Had I known I would have voted. You may ask how did I not notica all the adds on TV and elsewhere. Thank Brighthouse and their fabulous DVR. Thank my normal everyday absentmindedness. Anyway, I like the reults, so I'm happy. Back to my ignorant bliss.

Yeah. The results turned out *pretty* good.

The state legislature is still far too conservative for my tastes, but the state Democratic party is underfunded, and let a lot of Republicans run unchallenged. But we did get a Dem in as state CFO, which shows we can win statewide offices again.

Oddly, the CFO is one of the *few* elected positions that doesn't have much at all to do with social justice, and I'm astonished that Floridians will elect a liberal to run fiscal policy, but not social policy. Fiscal policy is one of the few areas where I'm actually conservative, myself.

One note though: DVRs aside, if you didn't get a sample ballot in the mail, you may not have current info on file, and you should definitely look into that if you want to vote in '08.
