There were some good floats, but they were few and far between, and there's a lot of ads, it seems. Some of them have a decent float, like that bank one, but some were so utterly boring and out of place, it was stunning. There was a ( Read more... )

even took some detours, blazing down University and taking in the view along the Lachine Canal

I assume you're referring to the two-direction part of University, and not the majority of it which goes north, *up* the hill? ;)

Yeah, I'm at Ste-Catherine and McGill College, so down via Cathcart, I catch it exactly where it becomes two-direction. :-)

When I used to live in Ville St-Laurent, some years back, my commute included going up that hill, then up Pine, then up Cedar, then up Côte-Ste-Catherine. That was, uh, not blazing. ;-)

Oh dear. And I thought I had it bad the summer I biked up Guy from Notre-Dame to de Maisonneuve every morning!

That's what I just did now! Well, from St-Jacques to Ste-Catherine. I find Guy somewhat annoying, though, I've taken to prefer Atwater (except there's construction now, argh!), it's steeper, but much shorter, you get it over with, and worst case, walk it. De la Montagne is the easiest, I find, but I guess would have been a bit out of the way for you.

I learned to shut the fuck up after a few weekends in San Francisco. ;-)
