Summary: For as long as he can remember, Yunho has been dreaming about a person he loved more than life itself, dying because of his fault. When he and his investigation team are put on a gruesome multiple homicide case he meets a journalist, Kim Jaejoong, whose close resemblances to the person in his dreams are more than striking. However, as the case starts to escalate, and more and more people die, he starts to realize Jaejoong might not be as innocent as he seems.

---

Jaejoong eyed Yoochun who looked at the microphone in his hand, most probably thinking the same thing he had. It had been his gut feeling that Yunho had been up to something, and sheer luck that the position wherein the other held him was so awkward Jaejoong dubble-checked his coat afterwards. They had to use this opportunity, and they both knew it.

Yoochun nodded slowly, giving the pin one last glance before sticking it back in the hood of Jaejoong's coat and taking it off for him. He draped it over a chair, where Jaejoong usually left it, took his hand and guided him to the bedroom where he closed the door and made sure no sound could escape.

"Junsu doesn't know yet," Jaejoong whispered as soon as the door clicked shut. "If we don’t tell him then we can-"

"I don't feel comfortable using him like that," Yoochun whispered in reply. "What if something goes wrong?"

"Back in my training days one of the other trainees told me that you only get punished if you spill secrets conciously. If he doesn't know, nothing will happen to him.”

Yoochun looked hesitant. "I don't know. You've seen what happened to Hangeng and Heechul when they tried to tell that cop... You were there when it happened."

"Thank you, I didn't need a reminder…”

"I'm just saying."

"That was different, okay," Jaejoong continued, "they should've never spoken to that cop directly. And Hangeng was just being an idiot."

"Well he paid for it with his life," Yoochun sighed, casting Jaejoong a very knowing glance. "You should learn from his mistakes."

Jaejoong folded his arms and looked down at the floor. "Junsu will be in as much danger as I am everytime I go to Yunho," he whispered. "And you never seem to have problems with that."

"You know that's not true," Yoochun replied, his expression almost hurt. "I did have problems with that, and I still do now..."

"If we waste this opportunity we might regret it later,” Jaejoong intervened, more urgently. “We're running out of time."

Yoochun seemed to hesitate. Time indeed was running out, and Jaejoong knew it was only a matter of days before someone realized what they were trying to do. A click sounded from the other room and Jaejoong could hear Junsu calling out their names. He looked at Yoochun intensely.

"I need you to back me up on this," he whispered, "if you don't want to do it, fine. But if it is because it's dangerous for one of us, then think again. It'll get way more dangerous than this, and you know that."

Yoochun sighed as he closed his eyes and rested the back of his head against the wall. "Fine," he said finally. "Just... promise me Junsu won’t end up like your previous team members."

"I promise," Jaejoong replied, adding a reasuring smile.

his friend just nodded, not looking quite convinced still when he opened the door. Nervously Jaejoong strolled after him. He really hoped he was right about this, because he didn't feel like repeating the past, especially not with Junsu and Yoochun. No matter how much he had appreciated Hangeng and Heechul, and how he sometimes missed especially the second, it had never been the way it was now with Junsu and Yoochun.

Junsu was sitting on the couch, and if Jaejoong didn't know him better he'd say the other was sulking. "I have bad news, bad news, and bad news, which one do you want to hear first?" he asked, looking up from his phone, and his legs folded underneath him.

Yoochun smiled a little despite the nervwrecking situation. "I liked the sound of that last 'bad news', let's start with that one," he said, sat down besides Junsu and shoved Jaejoong's coat to the side. From where he was standing Jaejoong could see the microphone, like a small bug hiding in his hood. He just hoped Junsu wouldn't notice.

And I hope you are paying attention Yunho-yah.

"Okay, the last one," Junsu sighed as he folded his hands in his lap, "Yunho is indeed put on hold. Apparantly they found a microphone belonging to one of his subordinates at the crimescene," he said while he ignored Yoochun's unflatering curses. "His department protected him and his team, but he and the one the microphone belonged to have been taken off the case and are not allowed to undertake anything until further notice." Junsu looked at Jaejoong who was staring off into the distance. "Do you want to stop seeing him?" he asked.

"No," Jaejoong replied immediately. "Even if he is not on active duty anymore, he still has influence. And we need his skills..." he looked at Yoochun a little hesitantly. Unlike Junsu they were both very aware of someone listening to their conversation. If he spilled too much the fear would set in, drive him insane until nothing was left of him, just like it had done with Hangeng. Just like it had done with Heechul…

"I think you're right," Yoochun said, noticing Jaejoong’s troubles expression. "Even if he turns out to be of no use, he isn't exactly a burden either. Let's just see where...” Yoochun’s voice faltered a little. “Where the situation will take us..."

Jaejoong could see he felt it too.

"Right," Junsu said, casting the both of them a dubious look.

Please don't ask us about it now, Jaejoong prayed. If Junsu did he might make Yunho realize they knew he was listening. But as if Junsu had heard his thoughts he shook his head and looked back down at his phone again.

"What about the two other bad things?" Yoochun asked as he looked over Junsu's arm to his text message. "Is that from Siwon?"

"Yes..." Junsu said and looked up, his eyes expressing his discomfort. "The next two ‘bad's’ are sort of tied together..."

"So, what are they?" Jaejoong asked, strolling towards them to sit on the table across Junsu. He felt the microphone's presence persitantly lingering.

"Lee Sooman is coming back from the States," Junsu started but was refrained from continueing when Yoochun cursed loudly.

"Already?" he exclaimed, clasping his hands over his face. "Too soon, way too soon."

"Don't be a drama queen, Yoochun," Jaejoong replied calmly, but he didn't feel all that calm as he looked up at Junsu. "And the last thing?"

"He already knows what we did," Junsu spoke softly. “Who we killed to draw attention…”

"Great, just fucking great."

"Yoochun calm down," Jaejoong spoke stern. "He's not here yet, we still have time. How long do we have before he's here you think?" he asked Junsu.

"Siwon texted me right away," he replied, "and taking into account that Sooman can’t travel by plane because of the weak state he's still in, I'd say at least a week, with a little luck a month. He heard that we are trying tell the outside world what is happening, and he knows Jaejoong has been in touch with that cop. But he also heard we haven't succeeded yet," Junsu sighed. "I think he's now seeing this as just another attempt of Jaejoong to break free, like that time he tried to escape with Heechul and Hangeng,” Junsu sighed as he looked down at his phone.

Jaejoong felt like dancing and singing in success as he looked at Yoochun with twinkling eyes.

"I think Jaejoong might be in more danger because this is the second time he's involved in an incident like this," Junsu continued, not realizing what was going on in his friends’ minds. "But I don't think he really sees us as a threath though, which is good... I suppose, and we still did assassinate the people he wanted us to so…" He looked at Jaejoong confused. "Why are you smiling?"

Jaejoong could no longer restrain himself, bounced up hyper and leaped for his coat. While Junsu watched him confused he plucked the microphone out of his hood, sat down in Junsu's lap and settled himself comfortably before he held the fragile device in front of the other's eyes. With a broad smile he crushed it between his fingers, cutting off Yunho's connection.

"Was... Was that what I think it was?" Junsu asked shocked, looking at the crushed remainders filtering through Jaejoong's fingers.

"You have no idea how much I love you right now," Jaejoong grinned right before he kissed him. Junsu mewled, his breath hitching as he struggled to push Jaejoong off.

"Yah!" he yelled. "That was a microphone wasn't it? You should've told me!" He exclaimed, pushed Jaejoong to the floor and stood up.

"We couldn't," Yoochun said, a big smile plastered on his face as he helped Jaejoong to sit up and wrapped his arms around him. "You wouldn’t be able to spill our secrets if you knew someone was listening."

"I could've been in danger," Junsu pouted and cast them a hurt look.

"You could've," Jaejoong said as he took Junsu's hand, pulling towards the floor and into his arms slowly. "But you weren't, and now Jung Yunho knows what we are," he smiled as he stroked the hair out of Junsu's face.

"Jung Yunho... was the one that was listening? Wait, if he knows then..."

"Exactly, it will only be a matter of time before he will tell the police and they’ll find out what Lee Sooman is doing," Jaejoong smiled as he brushed over the other’s lips. “They’ll lock him away and we’ll finally be free.”

Junsu seemed like he was about to smile, but controlled himself the last second. "I'm still angry with you both for not telling me though," he decided angrily as he sat back on his knees and stood up.

"Hey, what are you angry with me for?" Yoochun asked in faked indignance. "It was all Jaejoong's idea."

"Yah!” Jaejoong cried out, "you agreed!"

"Jaejoong-ah, explain yourself!" Junsu snapped, playing the game along.

"But, I didn't-"

"Su, don't you think we should punish him because he keeps coming up with these dangerous ideas?" Yoochun asked, a lewd smirk appearing on his lips.

Junsu's faked sulky face turned happy immediately. "Definitely," he exclaimed, and before Jaejoong knew what was happening he was lifted off the floor and dragged to the bedroom.

---

"Aish! Fuck it!" Changmin exclaimed as he threw the headphone back on the tabel. "I'm really sorry boss, but the microphone must be broken or something. No matter what I do, I can't get the signal back."

"That's okay," Yunho replied, in a voice that sounded unfamiliar, even to him. In the last few hours he had felt more different emotions than he had ever felt before in his lifetime. Jaejoong was a murderer after all, a professional one, or so it seemed, and he was in danger. It sounded like he had at least three people helping him, of which two were present at the time of the conversation. Lee Sooman was coming back from the States for them, for Jaejoong. Jaejoong was using him and Lee Sooman was aware of that, he had heard Yunho’s name, and he was going to hurt Jaejoong. But for what? The longer he thought about it the more confused he got.

"Boss, are you okay?" Changmin asked, worried. "You look pale."

Jaejoong-ah, how can you expect me to help you like this?

"I'm fine," Yunho sighed, rubbing the palms of his hands over his eyes. "Fuck, I need to sort out my priorities."

"Your priorities?" Changmin asked, uncomprehending, but Yunho shook his head.

"Never mind, you should contact the others that we need another emergency meeting. The sooner the better."

"Yes, of course," Changmin said, but didn't make any attempts to take his phone out. "Boss, can I ask you something?"

"What is it?" Yunho asked as he looked up. He felt a massive headache coming up already, his mind not quite able to process what had just happened.

"I know I've made jokes about it before and maybe I shouldn't be the one asking you this but..."

"What is it Changmin?" Yunho urged, he really needed some sleep.

"That guy, Kim Jaejoong..."

Yunho looked away; he could already feel the question coming. But he really didn't know, didn't know if he loved him, didn't know if he even could love someone like that. A few days ago he had been so certain Jaejoong was the same one as the person in his dream, the way his heart had leaped had felt so familiar. But now he no longer knew. Jaejoong seemed more foreign than ever, almost like he wasn't human. How could he ever have thought that he could become close to someone like that. He couldn't be the same... so why did he feel this way?

"If he asked you to help him, would you? Even if it’s something illegal or… dangerous?"

Yunho looked up and frowned. "What do you mean?"

Changmin seemed hesitant to proceed. "It's just that Kyuhyun and I have been discussing this earlier but..." Changmin sighed as he looked up at Yunho. "Boss, it's obvious that you have feelings for him. We think it's not safe for you to meet up with him any more. And... Maybe we should tell Donghae about this."

Yunho looked at nowhere in particular, letting his hand roam over the now useless headphone. "You're right."

"What?" Changmin replied startled. "I mean, of course I'm right but... What?"

"You're right, it is becoming too dangerous, not just for me. And you're right, we should send these files to Donghae, it's obvious that this is no longer within our capabilities." Changmin just stared at him with his mouth half-open. "But..." Yunho continued.

"Oh, I knew it."

"Let me meet up with him just one last time."

"Boss, I really don't think that a-"

"One last time. I'll leave the files to you so you can send them to Donghae, even if something happens to me. Then we'll discuss with him what to do next, if we'll even be allowed to keep our jobs that is, and then I'll take my hands off this completely."

Changmin shifted in his chair uncertainly, his eyes fixed on Yunho's fumbling hands. "It's about that dream isn't it..."

Sometimes Yunho was really surprised with how witty Changmin could be.

"I just need to ask him," Yunho said.

"And what if he says ‘yes’? What if he has the same dreams? Yunho-yah, he's dangerous," Changmin exclaimed suddenly as he grabbed Yunho’s hands, than realized what he was doing and let go quickly. "I mean, I know what this means to you, but it's just... It's just wrong. You shouldn't do this to yourself. And you shouldn't do this to your team..."

Yunho wasn't quite used to Changmin being like this.

"Changmin-ah, I promise that even if he is the same, even if he has those dreams as well it will be the last time I’ll meet with him."

Changmin looked up at him, his worried look somewhat taken away by his familiar sceptism. "It doesn't really matter what I say anymore, does it?"

"I suppose not," Yunho replied, managing a small smile.

"You're hopeless," Changmin sighed. "And a terrible liar."

Yunho choose not to reply to that. If Jaejoong was the same, if he but looked at him and told him that he knew what Yunho meant, Yunho knew he would never leave again.

He waited until Changmin had left to call Kyuhyun before he took out his own phone.

'Jaejoong-ssi', he began, deleted it and started over. 'Jae'. No not right either. Yunho sighed as he decided 'Jaejoong-ah' would just have to do and continued to type his message, deleting it several times, taking him almost 5 minutes to squeeze out two sentences:

-Jaejoong-ah, do you have time to meet up any time soon? It's important.-

He pressed send before he could change it again and closed his eyes. He's a murderer, he thought. He probably knew the person who murdered JYP and that kid, a minor for fucks sake. He murdered people and would probably do it again if he was asked to.

Somehow Yunho only found himself searching for reasons to why Jaejoong was innocent. He had wanted to escape, escape from Lee Sooman, and had been given orders. Maybe he was just trapped, or maybe he was blackmailed into doing this.

Aish, who are you kidding? he thought. They used the word assassinate, assassins don't get trapped, they are the ones trapping others. Just like Jaejoong tried to trap me... Has already trapped me... God, what's wrong with me? Yunho thought desperately as he tried to sort his thoughts until his phone vibrated. He looked at the small device for several minutes before finally finding the courage to take it and open the message.

-When?-

Only one word. He really wondered what Jaejoong was thinking right now.

-How about tomorrow evening? Let's meet somewhere private.-

The silence lasted even longer this time, and Yunho was starting to wonder if Jaejoong would reply at all. Now he thought about it, Changmin had been gone for quite a long time as well. He was just about to stand up and check on the other when his phone buzzed for a second time. Quickly Yunho took it.

-Sure, we can meet at my place, you still have the adress, right? If it suits you, let's meet the day after tomorrow, at noon. Sleep tight, Yunho-yah.-

Yunho-yah...

Yunho quickly closed his phone as Changmin finally came back, his face looking slightly flushed in enthusiasm. "You won't believe this," he started to ramble, "Donghae has put all his teams on finding and questioning eyewitnesses, you knew that, right?"

Yunho just nodded, having some trouble keeping up with Changmin's quick pace.

"Well, apparantly they have finally been able to do something right, because they made the connection to Lee Sooman and, you won't believe this, found one of his assassins!"

"Whoa, wait up," Yunho intervened, "found one of his assassins? Are you sure? These hitmen don't really sound like people who get caught."

"I wasn't sure at first either, but listen to this. He was captured a little over ten years ago, but never charged as he was unacountable for his crimes due to mental illness."

"Mental illness?"

"Yes, barely able to form a coherent sentence at the time he was caught. His file was never brought out publicly because the police wanted to protect their potential source of information and hide their failure of not being able to solve the murders commited back then."

"So what use do we have of him now?" Yunho asked, still not really getting where this was going. "If he's not even able to form coherend sentences..."

"I thought so too, but when I heard his name I thought we might still have a chance."

"His name?"

“Kim Heechul,” Changmin concluded. "Kyuhyun said he was named Kim Heechul."

Yunho's eyes grew wide in realization.

“Exactly," Changmin said, “the same guy Jaejoong was talking about. Apparantly he's still alive.”
