I don't do challenges much, so could you define what you mean in the userinfo by 'strict challenge/no choice'? Have to go in order? Some of them are begging to be combined, too (the two to do with crime, for instance) - is that legitimate?

A lot of challenges have 100 blank stories to be written and only 95 words, then "Writer's choice" in the last 5, suggesting that you can pick your own word to write for, which pretty much goes against the point of writing for a challenge in the first place...

No, you don't have to go in order--just pick whichever word or words appeal to you. Combining two is perfectly OK as well.
