Today I shall be mostly listening to Radiohead, in an attempt to find out if they're as bad as I remember ( Read more... )

Isn't it "Pulkt/Pull Revolving Doors", or some such?

*Googles*

"Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors", AFAICT. My Radiohead mp3s were horribly mis-tagged, though I've mostly fixed them up now. Thanks!

If I were listening via Spotify, why would I decide in advance to stop at Amnesiac? I think these were all ripped from wormwood_pearl's CD collection - unlike me, she's a Radiohead fan.

I love your terminology.
I have no real opinion on Radiohead beyond a terrible memory from a TotP recording (don't ask). I think it was them anyway. They did a set of about 4-5 songs, which were consistently long, miserable and dreary. And then the sound tech announced that there was "a problem", and we had to suffer them all again.
The front man (of the band) was at least apologetic. I think his words were along the lines of "I'm sorry, I don't want to have to do this to you again, but let's just try and get through it."
The stage manager had to get the techs to form a riot-police-style barricade to push us towards the stage so that there was something approximating a crowd in the shot. Everything was shot from behind the crowd so the cameras couldn't see our faces...

The Brookmyre thing? Yes, I certainly find it useful :-) I believe there's a technical definition of "loudness" among sound engineers, but don't know how it relates to Brookmyre-loudness.

TotP recording

That sounds ghastly.

Not the Brookmyre thing. More the bits of "MAKE IT STOP" and your descriptions of the sounds. They make me giggle, which is a good thing.

TotP? Yes. It was ghastly. We shall speak of it no more. We shall especially not speak of why I allowed myself to be talked into going more than once...

Oh god. I just remembered the "Ketchup Song" experience. Argh, my poor neurons.

Always verged from ambivalent to aargh with Radiohead really. Quite like The Bends though.

I hate No Surprises especially.

"As one spotty oik, my entire year (except me) went into town and bought OK Computer on the day it was released."

We really did go to VERY different schools didn't we? ;)

Yes, me too.

The oiks at your school didn't have spots? ;)

Seriously, though, I read Wikipedia's description of Radiohead as an "alternative rock band" and thought "what the hell were they an alternative to? What 90s band was more omnipresent?"

No, full of spotty oiks too, just spotty oiks who would be going out and buying Usher, Destiny's Child and Artful Dodger CDs over anything with guitars in it.

You know, I'd always wondered who bought Destiny's Child albums. I guess I'd assumed that the albums were a loss-leader to get them into films and telly.

I guess if you don't like his voice you're not going to like a lot of the output. Fair dos.

'Great track. Best so far, IMHO, and a great one to end the afternoon on.'

fwiw: humph littleton's jazz band are on this track
