As a developer, I think I can condidently say that the chances of us getting that right in version 1 is pretty slim...

... because otherwise they're likely* to think of us as a horde of dirty, crawling beasties whose individual demands are trivial, but whose aggregated demands are unbearable, rather as we think of fleas or bedbugs? My point exactly :-)

* Not actually that likely - that's assuming a far too anthropomorphic model of strong AI (particularly, in this case, of alien-origin AI - though I'd expect organic sentient aliens to have similar attitudes to parasites to ours). But please allow me some artistic licence :-) If I were trying to be realistic here, I'd have made the protocol handshake a lot more detailed.
