The EU Data Protection Act is modelled on the UK's 1988 DPA. It was passed into law in the UK as the 2000 DPA.

It is a good question. I'd be interested in working out if, for example:
  1. You can appeal one of these orders in a court, takin it as far as the European Courts of Justice
  2. You can challenge a national law at the european courts of justice as being against the European convention on human rights
  3. The European Comission, or even the Parliament can actually affect or sanction the UK in some way for breaking any of the Comission's directives, in this case including the ECHR
  4. There is a UK body that officially vets proposed legislation for imcompatibility with EU regulations, or international treaties, and can either veto particular clauses, or throw a law back into the commons. Is this one of the Lord's functions?

"Were is Europe?" is a very good question. After all, 70% of the legislation that goes through the house of commons is EU-sourced....
